Diamond Jamboree = More Asian Eateries = More Fun

diamond_jamboree.jpgGood things do happen in Irvine, even if it's going to make traffic even more hellish. It's called Diamond Jamboree Center, a sprawling shopping complex you might have seen being built on the corner of Alton and Jamboree Rd.

So far, just the signs are up. Finishing touches are still being made. But already you can tell, this is going to be interesting. I'm rubbing my hands as I type this. (Well, not at the same time, obviously.)

First there's H-Mart, a Korean grocer. And then Tokyo Table, what looks to be a serious Japanese restaurant, featuring ishiyaki, food cooked tableside on a hot stone. BBQ Chicken, an outlet of the Korean-style fried chicken chain (think Popeye's but with kimchi) is also coming to town.

A Taiwanese bakery called 85°C Bakery Café promises gourmet coffee and pretty cakes. Capital Seafood, a Little Saigon and Rowland Heights institution is also slated to open.

And I didn't even mention Guppy Tea House (boba milk teas and such) and Chae Bahn (Korean cuisine) yet.

If it all goes to plan, the traffic will be worth it.

I heard about H-Mart from a blogger in Houston and have been waiting for this. Her posts about the food court have me anxious - I'm guessing I'll go there for many weeks straight to try everything, like I did with the Japanese offerings at Mitsuwa.

And Capital Seafood, awesome...

Also REALLY excited about BBQ Chicken. Heard of it on Yelp but the one closest is 20 minutes from me. Now it will be in Irvine, hooray!

I'm looking forward to all the new restaurants, but traffic will definitely be an issue. There are only two entrances and both are located on Alton. Coming from Jamboree requires turning onto Alton, and turning left at a traffic light to get into the plaza.

It almost seems like they're modeling this after the Diamond plaza in Rowland Heights with 1 entrance in and out.

I guess traffic nightmares are a requirement for Asian shopping centers.

I first read about this at the beginning of the summer on the OC Register. I've been wondering when all of the construction would be finished and when shops would be opening up.

Melissa,

The two I'm looking forward to the most has to be Capital Seafood and BBQ Chicken. Just imagining their lunch specials, here, in Irvine, is almost too much to fathom. And Korean Fried Chicken...it's about time!

Jimmy,

Yep. It's gonna be hell. And that's my way home too! All good things come with a price, I suppose.

Wonginator,

I've been checking up on it daily, since, again, it's on my way to-and-from work. As soon as I saw signs, I snapped those pics!

I remember the first construction sign I saw for DJ. Figured it would be quite different from The District. Tried cruising through the parking lot on Sunday afternoon, and was dismayed by the Alton entrance.

Can't wait to try the offerings. Thanks for confirming Capital Seafood. The man was wondering about that connection. Saw that BBQ chicken applied for their beer/wine license on 9/3. Yay! (to opening soon, not to the beer/wine).

Tokyo Table opens on 9/17. We got an invite to the soft opening this past weekend and were very impressed. Can't wait to try the rest.

Brekkie Fan,

I noticed they put up the sign not more than a week ago. And BBQ Chicken's next to the Korean joint. How nice! As for the Alton only entrance, it's going to suuuuck!

Ridget,

I wasn't invited (ahem, hint, hint), but I saw the banner they put up today about the opening. Look for a post on this blog tomorrow about it. Nothing you probably don't already know, since you've eaten there already, but just some info for the general public.
