The Most Pointless Valet Service in Orange County: Geisha House

Geisha House in SanTana's cursed CityPlace development just opened, and I haven't stopped by to try the place so can't comment on the food. I can, however, offer an opinion on its valet service: pointless.

It's one thing to offer valet service in urban areas where parking is scarce or in vast lots, but that problem doesn't exist at CityPlace: The parking lot, from end to end, takes no more than three minutes if you walk on game ankles and trick knees. And it's not like CityPlace is slammed with business, either: even with Mother's Market and McCormick & Schmidt's as anchors, one can find parking at any time--and good spots at that.

So, why the valet service? From its website and big pictures of those infantile Japanese wome that Gwen Stefani so idolizes outside its structure, it's apparent Geisha House sees itself as a scenester restaurant and not one trying to compete with the Kappo Suzumarus and Honda Yas of the world. I might try out the fool, but in the meanwhile can safely say that anyone who pays $5 for the valet service deserved to get ripped off for their stupidity.

Geisha House, 2773 N. Main St., Santa Ana, (714) 564-0350. Click here for a newsier take on CityPlace!

Val says:

I hate valeting my car in general, so this is just beyond dumb. Ooh, I'm kind of tempted to see if they'll valet my bike though (I always just bike here). Too douchey?

Why, oh why? says:

Pointless valet, pointless restaurant. Waited 20 minutes for a cocktail waitress in a very uncrowded lounge and finally had to get our own drinks at the bar. Not surprisingly, no one knew how to work the cash register. Waitress came back to every table around us but could only take one order at a time because she was m-e-m-o-r-i-z-i-n-g each order. At the bar, my husband watched in simultaneous humor and horror when the bartender was asked who ordered the kobe beef (out of 5 people total sitting at the bar) and she wailed, "I can't remember!". After 40 minutes with Blondie still not taking our food order, we left and headed to Gabbi's in Orange for a delicious meal. Word to the wise, let GH work out the kinks and go through a few rounds of wait staff before trying it...

Why on earth would you put an uber trendy place like this @ CityPlace???

At least @ Triangle Square where Sutra and Chronic Cantina thrive would of been better suited.. Don't you think?

John says:

I dont really understand the above comments...my wife and I ate at Geisha last night and the food, service and decor were amazing. I give Geisha a 9 out of 10. The music could have been a little lower though. The parking lot was so packed we HAD to valet, but hey, $5 is not a lot of dough for valet.

NPS says:

Good comments folks.. This place seems like they are going to have loads of startup issues and get a bad rep from early on. Really shocking how new openings still have clueless management training employees and then wondering why they can't break even.

Dolce Group who owns the restaurant needs to put some seasoned employees there, NOT new hires.

NPS says:

One more thing, in relation to John's comment. I'm sure you had a great meal and good service however the point of opening a restaurant is being consistent - if you walked in and got acceptable service, then why did "Why oh why (above)" have such a bad experience.

This is purely an issue with management NOT watching front of the house and leaving it to "wet behind the ears" newbies to represent and ruin their restaurant before it's even established.
