Capital Seafood Opens in Diamond Jamboree! Finally!

capital_seafood.JPGAlright.  If you've been reading this blog since its inception last September, then you know that I've been keeping an eye on what's been going on at Diamond Jamboree in Irvine.

And if you remember my very first post here, which was also about Diamond Jamboree, you should also should recall that of all the eating places at this new Asian themed center, Capital Seafood was the one that I've been looking forward to the most.

Their branch in Garden Grove started me off about a decade ago.  Then they opened in Rowland Heights -- an even better restaurant with cooks that know their way around a hot wok.  The food is fresh, vibrant, and most importantly, consistent.

The Rowland Heights branch has always attracted a crowd.  And not just Chinese diners, but Filipinos, Indonesians, Mexicans, Vietnamese, etc.  They come in droves for the lunch specials, where each dish is discounted, hovering somewhere between $5-$10, which includes hot-n-sour soup, rice, and a Vietnamese che dessert.

Now, it's finally open at the Diamond Jamboree in Irvine.

I went in today and it's gorgeous.  The decor is unlike any of the other Capitals I know, even the one in Vegas.  Ironically, this Irvine branch looks like it was inspired by Versace and The Wynn.  Glossy, glassy, and classy.

Though I haven't had the food, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.  The others in the chain seem to be able to keep up the quality, so I'm sure this one will be the same; but there is still the off chance that they can screw it all up.  Plus, they do dim sum, which the others don't do.  Like I said:  Fingers crossed.

For you readers who will most likely be able to get to try it before I do, I picked up a menu, which I scanned and provide here.

This place is on my TDL for sure. I haven't had dim sum yet, any recommendations?

The food was fine, the service was better than average for a Chinese restaurant--hopefully that doesn't change. Only problem I forsee is the price, we ordered a Salt & Pepper fish fillet which apparently is only on the dinner menu Sunday afternoon, the $16.99 price tag was about 30% high.

hungrymomma,

I know this isn't helpful, but if you've never had dim sum: try everything! If they do the carts, which I hear they do, you pretty much point to anything that looks good. I don't often know what I'm eating, but always, it'll be good. The only thing is if it looks like chicken feet, it probably is!

Mingyue,

Do they have their lunch specials?

Val,

I hope so. But I doubt it. It's probably only in the morning. If I find out for sure, I'll post back.

Glad to hear it's finally open. I usually try to avoid new restaurants in the first month, so that any kinks in the service are worked out, but dim sum cravings may override that.

Decent prices for dim sum, with the $2.25/$3.25/$4.25 price structure, but wow, they're charging $9 for chow mein and chow fun. It's usually around $6 at Sam Woo or SW Seafood.

I'll try the dim sum soon, but may skip on the regular menu stuff.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Irvine now =) The Roasted duck with buns, is super good, and all the mushroom dishes. Also the fried tofu. The rice is ok. The Spicy Thai soup is also great!
