Celebrity Soul Food Buffet Opens in Lake Forest

You might have never stepped into Dragon Buffet in Lake Forest, but you probably already have a good idea of what it was: a Chinese buffet.

Typically, when a buffet like that closes, it doesn't really close, it just changes hands. A new "Under New Management" might go up, but you can bet you can still count on the sweet and sour chicken being there.

But this time, this Chinese buffet is gone for good. In its place at 24416 Muirlands Blvd. in Lake Forest something new has moved in: a Southern food buffet, which, correct me if I'm wrong, is the first of its kind in OC, let alone Lake Forest.

Celebrity Soul Food Buffet seems to serve in huge AYCE trays everything you expect of down-home Southern cooking. Ribs, mac and cheese, collard greens, fried okra, grits, hot wings, banana pudding, cornbread, fried catfish and of course, fried chicken. And waffles. I'm forgetting the waffles, which you make yourself on a waffle iron.

The have daily specials that rotate. Friday is BBQ ribs and chicken; Saturday, gumbo; and Sunday, oxtails and gravy. And the prices: $11.95 for Monday through Friday lunch; $13.95 for dinner; and $15.95 all day Saturday and Sunday.

Their menu is nicely laid out and can be seen here.

I'm from the south and I don't see this place lasting very long. Not enough morbidly obese people in OC who are gonna pay $15 per person for buffet food. Why not just make it cafeteria style and charge like $5-$6 a combo meal? Buncha rich old people live around there so i might be wrong. I'll try to hit the place up sometime though.
