A Defense of Dunkin' Donuts

I miss you so much

If you've never had Dunkin Donuts before, I feel bad for you.

Dunkin Donuts makes me happy. It's been there for me since day one. It's seen me after late nights with friends when things have been rough. It's seen me after late nights with friends when things have been great. It's dealt with me without any makeup on first thing in the morning, and it doesn't even care. DD has accepted me at my worst and embraces me at my best.

Moving to California a year ago was one of the best decisions I've made both professionally and personally. But when I realized Dunkin Donuts wasn't out here, my heart broke. A void was created that no Coffee Bean could fill. I questioned the meaning of life, because was a life without Dunkin Donuts worth living? To this day, I'm still not sure.

Often times, I find myself in this dreamless state of being in the morning looking for a caffeine fix. Sure, there are plenty of options, but none are as good as a Caramel Swirl Iced Coffee from DD (with cream and sugar, of course).

The coffee from Dunkin is next level. For fast-coffee options, there's nothing comparable. Not S'Bucks, not Coffee Bean, not McDonald's. It's everything I've ever wanted in coffee: smooth, slightly acidic without going overboard, and full bodied. And if regular coffee isn't your thing, it's okay: just ask them to add any pump from their variety of flavors.

Let's take a moment and discuss their breakfast sandwiches. I have no doubt that my successful college career was a direct result of DD's cheese, egg and bacon croissants. Buttery, warm and fluffy, it's like they whispered, "Good morning, beautiful," into my mouth every day I ate them. You can even go healthy is you want to: Egg whites, lean proteins, you know, that sort of thing.

And the best thing: All these items are served all day. Yes, breakfast for dinner is an option.

Bottom line is that Dunkin Donuts is a magical place. I almost cried tears of joy when I heard that they would be gracing SoCal with its presence soon. It's that big of a deal, just you wait and see.

Until then, my Dunkin ground coffee from the grocery store will just have to do. Excuse me while I cry into my pillow until 2015.

They have a Dunkin Donut shop at Camp Pendleton but you have to know somebody with base access to get your DD fix from there.

This transplanted Midwesterner is happy to say, their coffee is awesome!  Keep the pink donuts but keep the brew a pourin'.  And, thank you Costco for stocking DD coffee brand. The national coffee marketing program is the brainchild of a former McDonald's marketing exec who is now with DD.

Another whiny east coaster. Don't like it here? Fucking leave. Nobody invited you anyway!!!

Got 'em in Utah and they're worth all the hype... CA doesn't have anything like Dunkin and I'm from CA...... So, it's not really a whining east-coaster thing

When I worked in Boston, I'd drive by Dunkin' donuts and the parking lot was full. But this was at 5 PM. That was creepy. Is D.K. donuts still on Chapman across from El Modena high school? That's where I got my fix.

Donuts have no redeeming value.  They are very simply empty calories and  a lot of them.   Why waste time with the end product.  Why don't you just mainline sugar and fat into your system?

Comfort food for fat people who feel sorry for themselves because they are fat.

Im all for mom and pops. But, the donut places in costa mesa all suck. Very Watered down expensive coffee and overpriced donuts.

DD will make its return to SoCal pretty soon! They used to be all over during the mid 80's.

Dunkin Donuts is at the same common generic level as In N Out burger. Krispy Kreme is like Fat Burger- Supreme ruler and best in class.

There's one in San Diego, but I prefer Mighty O doughnuts from Seattle any day or Voodoo from Portland.

They are all over Arizona and i have had them, they are like wax, not very good at all.

We do have Dunkin Donuts, and it is not impressive, I have had better

DD is solid. And have good non-donut faire too. Coffee is pretty good for being light. It's going to be awesome having one more coffee option. Technically Winchell's/Yum Yum make a better donut... but not by a huge margin. Krispy Kreme's glazed are better than the glazed at Winchell's and DD... But KK's other donuts aren't (Shipley Donuts out of Texas blows KK out of the water, btw) probably the best overall donut is Winchell's and DK. And a few other mom & pops. I welcome DD back to SoCal. And I'm stoked that chose my city as one of it's first locations.

I live in NY and Dunkin is everywhere. CA has much better donuts - they're fresh made not frozen crappie that Dunkin sells. Yuck .

Dunkin Donuts is disgusting. I lived on the east coast for awhile and this was the only donut option in many, many areas. I'm pretty sure most people over there just haven't had anything better. And, truly, just about any other donut shop is better than this chain of garbage.

There is a burger joint and a donut shop on every corner, don't think they need dunkin. Dunkin isn't bad but not the greatest.

Personally, I always thought there was no perceptible difference between Dunkin' Donuts and Winchell's.

I sub teach for Oceanside Unified School District, which has 3 schools inside the Camp Pendleton Marine base. It just so happens there's a Dunkin' Donuts about ¾ miles from the main gate entrance, @ the base exchange. So whenever I sub teach @ the base.....:-D ;-)

The Doughnuttery, in HB, destroys Dunkin and pretty much all chain doughnut places.

I can't even believe someone would prefer a chain, any chain, over the so many great independent places. Sure, you gotta look around to find one, but if you rely on a chain, it just means you're unadventurous, willing to settle, and ultimately, boring.

Their donuts aren't even good. They're like 711 donuts, nasty.

Try buccaneers pizza near the 22 fwy, kind of by orange circle.

Are you kidding me? The reason they failed here is because we have better taste on the Left Coast. JK. Dunkin blows. Their donuts are stale, unbalanced garbage that leaves a leftover taste like SoftBatch® cookies and aspartame. Their coffee, especially the packaged crap, smells rancid and has artificial flavors. No thanks. I already know they're nasty and won't even need to try them.

There is no hype to Dunkin Donuts Aaron Roach, just awesome donuts. But there are many great local donut places already in So Cal. As a side note, there is no good pizza or real cheesesteaks anywhere in So Cal.

DD is ok but nothing to do cartwheels for.

Aaron Roach

They were here a while back. East coasters didn't start romanticizing the place until they left the west coast. This is why I suspect, when they come back, after I brave the long lines to see what the hype is about, it will be a disappointment, just like New York pizza, Philly cheesesteaks, and Chicago pizza. I'll still go once, but after that I'm sure it'll be back to support the corner shop.

I just got paid $7500 working off my computer this month. And if you think that's cool, my friend has twin toddlers and made over $8k her first month. It feels so good making so much money when other people have to work for so much less. This is what I do,

The best thing about DD is the coffee. Best drip coffee for your money. The first cup may not blow you away, but drink it every day for a week and I dare you to settle for anything else!
