Epic burrito from El Toro Bravo. Did it make the list? Maybe...
Reporters are notoriously loose-lipped with projects that they do, so imagine how wracked I've been having to keep secret my participation in an epic project by FiveThirtyEight, the data-driven offshoot of ESPN run by wunderkind and burrito aficionado Nate Silver. But today, he finally announced his team's search for the best burrito in America--and I'm honored to be one of the people tasked with the serious responsibility of picking the 64 burritos that will duke it out to be crowned America's top burrito. GANGSTA!

Read all the details here in Silver's initial post on the subject. All I can say right now is that there will be OC representation in the California bracket--but lemme check with Nate right now to see how much more I can blab. Watch this infernal blog for more details, and begin the debate!

If they ever have a "Best Chorizo" contest I would like to be a judge. (nudge-nudge, ring-ring, wink-wink, say no more...) ;-)

Too trendy. I grew up in Tucson, where there is excellent Sonoran style food, by the way. And I don't mean El Charro.

NO WAY. I've been eating there since it started in Toker's Town, and the quality has gone down badly.

The burrito on the pix just reminded me of the burritos from Taqueria Serranos on Main and St. Andrews in Santa Ana..... Best burritos ever!!

tasty contest - no matter who wins in the end.... they're all winners in my book! California should put a burrito on our state flag! LOL - maybe in the bear's mouth?

The best is at La Taqueria on Mission near 24th in what's left of the Mission District of San Francisco. They don't build kitchen sink burros unless you really want it that way. They've been there forever. It reminds me of the ones my mom used to make for my dad's lunch. He'd heat the tasty home made burritos with the welding torch on the job.

I dunno which is best...........but that shit better not have shit like sour creme, mango, grated cheese etc etc. Carne, frijoles, cilantro, cebolla & salsa thats it.

Tavo, I cannot make my Mexican husband eat a burrito unless he is absolutely famished. He is Chilango and says it is not Mexican food. He is serious about this because he has lived in Cali for over 45 yrs. You should ask how many people detest the burrito.

I moved back to Detroit for awhile, and miss my burrito de asada and tacos al pastor everyday. I'm moving back in 18 months, though.

Are you looking at flavor or size? or both? because Los Sanchez makes a decent size burrito but El Toro Bravo gives them a run for their money in that category. However, if you looking for taste then I recommend, and I hate to admit this, go to Taqueria the Anda. Correct me if I'm wrong, please.

It's all about the carnitas and I'm proud to say I make the best. On a side note anyone who adds rice to their burrito should be instantly disqualified.
