It's that festival time of year. And this weekend Garden Grove is hosting one of the big ones: The Garden Grove Strawberry Festival starts Friday at 1 p.m. and continues through the weekend. There will be a parade, strawberry-related food, carnival rides, entertainment, and appearances from celebrities like Aubrey Anderson-Emmons who plays Lily in Modern Family.

And if you want to get a piece of the giant strawberry shortcake--the centerpiece of the festival's opening ceremonies--it will be sliced up and given away (again, free) on May 23 at 6 p.m. in the Showmobile at Main and Acacia streets to all who come.

If you miss it, our Dave Lieberman recommends the strawberry shortcake from Job's Daughters, which he dubs "the only reason for people over the age of 25 to visit the Garden Grove Strawberry Festival: the most insane strawberry shortcake in the county."

Let the gang violence begin! It's kind of sad considering the city pushed the last strawberry field out years ago.

We owned a condo right across the street from this festival from 1988 to 2012. What the hell are you talking about? Gang member problem? Most of the time, Garden Grove cops were just standing there watching the grass grow.

Stop spreading this gang member boogie man story. And as I've mentioned before, someone in OC law enforcement uses gang member types to commit crimes for them - so your law enforcement community couldn't give a damn about the gang problem. They provoke some of it.
