Tabi-Ji, A New Japanese Teppanyaki, Opens in Orange
A friend of mine who lives in Orange asked if I knew anything about the Japanese place that's going to replace Taste of Sicily.
This is a picture of the teppanyaki at Benihana, not Tabi-Ji; but you get the idea...
"No," I said, "but you live around the corner, so why don't you tell me?"
So she did. It's a teppanyaki. Owned by at least one of the people behind Shiki, which claims to be the oldest continuously running Japanese restaurant in the county, Tabi-Ji is the same kind of restaurant. It serves the familiar fare of Japanese staples like sushi, udon, teriyaki, and combo plates, but with more teppanyaki stations and space for their cooks to twirl their spatulas, construct onion volcanoes, and toss shrimp tails onto their hats.
