Regardless of your like or dislike of the opposite coast, food serves as the ultimate kumbaya. There is no denying that Philadelphia. has produced one of our favorites..."The Philly Cheesesteak". It was supposedly created in 1930 by the Olivieri family of South Philadelphia, and great cheesesteaks can be devoured in numerous locations throughout the City Of Brotherly Love. But here in Southern California, that's another story! If you've tasted the real deal, you know there are plenty of lousy imitators.

There is one restaurant, however, that consistently delivers! In true Poorman fashion, they'll be giving away some of their epic cheesesteaks '4 Freeeeeeeeeeeee' right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cheesesteak_Fries.JPG

East Coast meets West Coast in Fountain Valley at Philly's Best which has produced the best Philadelphia Cheesesteak Sandwich in Southern California since it's opening in 1992. It has happened through the pure genius of the restaurant owners and native Philadelphians Bob and Andrea Levey. They wanted to bring the flavors of Philadelphia to their new home in SoCal. As a result, they opened their first Authentic Cheesesteak and Hoagie Shop in a modest-looking eatery in the Albertson's Shopping Center at Brookhurst and Ellis. It has stood as a monument to their roots ever since. The reason the Philly's Best Cheesesteak is Best is really quite simple. They have all the ingredients flown to SoCal direct from Philly. This is absolutely the real deal! The entire menu features: Boar's Head® meats, Amoroso® Rolls, Wise® Chips, Frank's® Black Cherry Wishniak, Pennsylvania Dutch Birch Beer® and numerous TastyKake® offerings.

Besides the Cheesesteak (which I like smothered in onions), I recommend the cheesesteak Fries and their Onion Rings! 'Kiss me ladies'! Philly's Best has grown to 22 locations throughout Southern California. For more information, visit the company's website at www.eatphillysbest.com, call (949) 206-9724, "Like" them on Facebook, or follow them on Twitter. Don't take my word for it. Take the Philly's Best Cheesesteak taste test yourself! Thus it's time for the big payoff!!!!!

A Philly's Best Cheesesteak means a delicious reward to me. A rare savory treat that brings joy to my tastebuds. It also means I know to expect nothing less than top quality in each bite i take.

I've never been further East than Austin TX or Twin Cities MN.  But good meat done just right is what I love.  Beer, cheese, onions, a smidge of mayo... it's ON baybee.  I'd love to win the contest.  A Non Philly gal and all.  ;-)

I would drive from Newport to your shop on Brookhurst when my father was alive to get him a cheesesteak with well done onions and get it to him in time for his Lunch hour...to me it means love for the joy it brought him

What Philly's Best means to me is freezing days in Philadelphia when I was attending U Penn.  When I want to relive my old college days when money was tight and I saved up to have a great cheesesteak sandwich.  This was a treat.  Now that I have a job and can afford it, it still feels like a treat that I saved up for.  It reminds of me of study group and staying up all night long to study for exams and eating them in the freezing winter after class got out or after a night of partying.

Today is my birthday and this is what I had for lunch today!

What Philly's best means to me: This means that I have a chemistry class at 7 a.m. on a Friday and by the time I finish lecture and lab, my stomach is dying to get"high" on delicious food. It's 1:45 p.m. and I am out of class, like a cave man, I start hunting for food! Would it be a hamburger, pizza, or a foot long sandwich? would it be a freaking low calorie, low nutrition salad? Trust me, I got choices. That's when Philly's comes into action. I can even taste the delicious aroma of the onions in my mind, as it challenges the real methane aroma on my clothes. Inevitably guided by my imagination, as to not starve and pass out on the way, I drive 20 miles without complaining, as the fictitious aroma guides me through the 57 S., as if 2 p.m., jammed traffic, meant not a single thing. Ironically, subway, and in n out wave as I can't resist to the enchanting aromas of the onions, as stake flavor starts to Sirius my lips. As the hard journey comes to an end, as the parking lot embraces me, with big arms Philly's greets me, as the aromas become a reality. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

Philly's Best Cheesesteaks literally saved my life. As an aimless young man who was scalping tickets, gambling and drinking, I agreed to work at a Philly's Best near the Cabrini Green housing project in Chicago as a condition of getting a loan from a friend.

^It's also the same plot line as the movie Hard Ball with Keanu Reeves, but I could really go for some free cheese steaks.

Philly's Best cheesesteaks are among the best comfort foods you can find.  Meat, cheese & bread, some seasoning, onions & peppers.  No need to make it complicated.

Never been to Philly, never even been to Philly's Best.....

So what does a cheesesteak mean to me you ask? Dinner. Plain and simple.

Phillys Best is an amazing place. After trying a CheeseSteak when I flew to Philly to see the Kings take on the Flyers, I had worked up an appetite for a hearty meal. Nothing has ever come close to that cheesesteak I had on that day. Phillys best has always had the freshest meats and cheeses , and the tasteykakes......Holy hell.....want a part of Philly, without the attitude..this is the place to go. Anytime I go to Phillysbest, I think back to my awesome trip to Philly.........THANKS POORMAN FOR THE AWESOME ARTICLE.  CBRITO27@HOTMAIL.COM

Mmm great, now I'm *really* hungry for this place. Okay, let's give this a go...

**TOP TEN REASONS WHY QDPSTEVE SHOULD WIN**
(and, what Philly's Best means to him)

10. Fantastic flavor of course!

9. Isn't provolone cheese one of the basic four food groups??

8. Can't afford the plane fare to eat a cheesesteak in Philly itself

7. Eating bad is the only thing that still helps fulfill the hole in my soul after Richard Simmons filed the restraining order against my notes to him on Twitter

6. So I can enjoy eating it in front of the window at 24-Hour Fitness on Bellflower Blvd, where all the starving exercising dieters there can see me

5. *Nothing* goes better with a Chicago Dog from Mustard's Long Beach than a de-lish cheesesteak from Philly's near the Traffic Circle

4. Spicy relish to die for sold in jars on the side at every PB location

3. Doctor says my arteries still aren't clogged enough

2. Will give my second sandwich to either Mr. Editor Gustavo or the Poorman himself -- hey what's wrong with a little outright bribery?? -- whichever person the Poorman chooses

1. My entry was CRIMINALLY overlooked during the UC Irvine Pizza response contest ;-)

Thanks Poorman!!

Btw I can't believe there's a place in Montebello called "Gringos Cantina."

Or actually, maybe I can

I appreciate Philly's Best selling Tastykake® (which are arguably the best packaged treats you can buy...the Butterscotch Krimpets, cupcakes, the 'Snak Bars' introduced about 10-20 years ago...and everything else they make), Boar's Head® (always top-quality) and Wise® (which are from the Bronx, but whatever, they're great chips).  But the cheesesteak in the photo only makes me miss Geno's -- truly "the best in South Philly" -- even more.

Philly's Best seems to want to mimic Pat's King of Steaks, with the soft Amoroso® rolls.  Geno's slightly-crisper and crustier Italian bread is better though.

Stick a Fork in It® readers, if you're ever in the city of Brotherly Love, go to Geno's!

Boyz II Men wouldn't film their videos there if they didn't serve great steaks!!

"Ambrosia" roll?

Is that a roll that sings "How Much I Feel" to you?

Disqualify this poser!
