What we like most about the cuisine at Mead's Green Door Cafe is Gary's ability to not only cook meals that are not only good for you, but to execute them so that they have great flavor. In our second installment, we talk a little more about the things that mean most to him: his family.

Hardest lesson you've learned:
LIFE. Still learning it.
We read something about tower gardens on your Facebook page; can you tell us more?
We are experimenting with growing some of our own greens. And we are selling the tower kits for people to grow at home.
What's your favorite childhood memory?
Swimming in our pool during the summer.
Last song playing.
When you're not cooking in the kitchen, what are you doing?
Family is very important to me. When I'm not at work, I like to hang with my kids and wife.
Last thing you looked up online.
Vegan cashew cream cheese.
What would you be doing if you weren't in this business?
I'd be a massage therapist.
Who decorated the cafe?
Gary Sr. and I created the look together-- but it wasn't easy. Having two creative people with their own creative ideas is sometimes a struggle. My dad's door art is visible around the cafe, and I picked out the tile, paint colors, counters, etc. You can see where both of our ideas come together, and we love hearing how much our customers enjoy themselves here.
Last movie watched; how was it?
Gravity with the family. Went in without high hopes, but came out with a renewed faith in movie making.
Have you always been vegetarian?
No. About three years ago (after we closed The Abbey), I took a look at how I was living, and wanted to start living a life that was more in line with the Universe. Through Buddhism, I started using the Buddhist principles to live by.
Do you have any skills that are non-food related?
Hanging out and having fun.
