Tijuana Si!, Edwin Goei Win First Place At The OC Press Club Awards

On Monday night, your favorite Orange County rag slaughtered at the OC Press Club Awards, winning more hardware than we could carry. (By the way, check out our own Taylor Hamby in an OC Weekly gown stat). And wouldya guess who won first place in the Best Food Blog category? Drumroll ... Dave Lieberman and Bill Esparza for Tijuana Sí! Yeah! The judges loved their fascinating dispatches from the south side of la línea.


Dave says, "It's amazing how far-reaching the gastronomic revolution in Baja is, and how accessible it is, but the only way to experience it is to go, because 99 percent of it isn't exported north."

Also taking top honors was Edwin Goei, who won first place for Best Food Story (Print) for his review "The Riders Club Cafe Goes Back to Business." I won third place for my profile of Jason Quinn in that same category.

Alright, back to work. Award-winning work, that is.

Good gosh! Can't tell you how excited we are to be treated like the backside of Borneo! Someday we hope to return the favor by sending our own expedition into darkest OC.

Meanwhile, let's see if you can recognize your own native sons here in Baja. How about the guy who's doing In-n-Out Burger on a bus near Mercado Hidalgo? Or the guy who used to own a "windows treatment" company in Anaheim who is now serving Peruvian food in Rosarito? Or the folks running pupuserías?
