Rainforest Cafe in South Coast Plaza Closed To Make Way For Din Tai Fung

dtf_dinner.jpg
The news came fast and furious. The Daily Pilot reported that Rainforest Cafe in South Coast Plaza closed this week after 16 years in business. Locations in Ontario Mills, and of course, Downtown Disney, will continue.

In a prepared statement, Rainforest Cafe's chief operating officer and senior vice president said that the mall decided not to renew their lease. Why? Well, as we reported here several months ago, Din Tai Fung, which was revealed to move into the mall, is going to take the space.

The beloved and lauded Taiwanese dumpling house, famed for its juicy pork dumplings with U.S. locations in Arcadia and Bellevue, Washington, will occupy 8,000-square-foot space at the mall, about half of the square feet previously claimed by Rainforest Cafe.

Where else can I go to eat with smoke blowing in my eyes and loud fake animal noises surrounding me?!

I worked in that mall for a few years previous to Rainforest Café, when there was a huge Carls Jr at that end. There was a big screen tv off to one section where the mall employees would navigate to during lunch breaks. Now that was nice.

Just an observation but the non asians are like, "What?!" And the asian people are like, "Hell Yeah!" Its ok if you're into that stuff, I've had it and I'm, "Eh..." Btw, its not another Dim Sum place. Far from it.

It's the former McDonald's spot that will house Din Tai.

This news just might give me reason to venture into the mall again.

Chuck, Fred, Bob, Jill ... That corner of the mall is going to get packed once DTF is there! Major traffic! I bet they will gut McD to widen the walkway from the parking lot

I always assumed I was paying for the atmosphere, which I don't mind one bit....I do mind driving that far inland to go to a Rain Forest Cafe. My son LOVES it!!!
