7. Guppy House

Nestled in the UCI student-friendly plaza known as Diamond Jamboree, Guppy House is known for its boba, shaved ice and their famous popcorn chicken, of which Edwin approves. If you're down for some midnight indulgence, spring for some brick toast. The toasted white bread in condensed milk comes drizzled in condensed milk, chocolate and any topping of your choice. Order a large and share with your friends for an energy boost to get you through the night.  2730 Alton Parkway, Ste. 101, Irvine, (562) 865-7288; www.myguppyteahouse.com

6. BCD Tofu House

Located just a few doors down from Guppy House in Irvine, BCD Tofu House prides itself on being the only Diamond Jamboree restaurant offering 24-hour service, where it's not uncommon to wander in at 3 a.m. to see the place packed with UCI students chatting as if it were 3 p.m. While you're waiting, enjoy some panchan like kimchi and fried fish, and then get ready for the sound of your bubbling pot of tofu. Perfect for cold nights or when you're coming down with a cold. 2700 Alton Pkwy., Irvine, (949) 553-6465.

5. NORMS Restaurant

This LA-based, 24-hour all-American chain restaurant has over 18 locations in SoCal, over half of which are in the good 'ol OC. Since 1949 the restaurant has been known for their slogan "We Never Close," and to this day they've continued to uphold it, much to the delight of 18-22 year-olds everywhere who need a place to study while grub. If you're craving an early breakfast, try one of their original omelettes--I suggest the Melting Pot, which is just as loaded as it sounds. Located in all old-school OC cities.

I am still curious if all those 24/hr mexican fastfood spots with the same menus are related in any way. They all have similar names and sometimes logos (fat sombrero dude). There are dozens of them, Altertos, Albertos, Alejandros, Adalbertos, Albatros (lol), etc.

Albatross isn't open late anymore. Thanks to all the idiots and murders. Thanks everyone for ruining my 2am burrito run.

Too bad this is an old story. The #1 selection (Albatros in Lake Forest) isn't open late anymore.

according to their website, Roscoe's closes at 8pm. How is that late night?

No way drinking college kids are going to drive to Santa Ana or Sunset Beach or Long Beach in the middle of the night for food.  These places are approx. 10 miles, 15 miles and 25 miles away.

Carl's Jr on Culver Drive at Michelson is open 24 hours.  Everything else except In-N-Out requires a car.  This article is bs.

This just confirms what I know.  There are very little options for late night food for people without cars.

" The toasted white bread in condensed milk comes drizzled in condensed milk"... good to know.

With its 24 hour operation (and Koreatown/Garden Grove reputation), BCD Tofu House at Diamond Jamboree shouldn't need to be as good as it is.  But the fact is, I've never exited the place unsatisfied with the food...nor even the somewhat impersonal, but efficient, service.  The tab is fairly easy to swallow, too.  Not a bad choice at any time of the day when in the mood for tofu stew in sleepy Irvine.

@gkubrick1

I will bet you a fried chicken breast & waffle plate that the Long Beach one is open way past 8 p.m. -- at least, on a Friday and Saturday night, when you can surely expect to wait for a table anytime after the sun goes down.  It's pretty busy late at night, esp. with those who've ingested some alcohol beforehand.
