This Week In Food: Sandwich Earls, Speckled Hens, and the Cutest Damn Toaster You've Ever Seen
|Earl of Sandwich...sandwich.|
Edwin reviewed the new Earl of Sandwich chain in Downtown Disney. World's greatest hot sandwich? Edwin didn't think so. At least it's a step above the slightly damp meals at Rainforest Cafe across the promenade! After that review, Edwin moved on to the maple bacon ice cream at OC's ice-cream parlor darling, Strickland's. Then he tasted the fresh baked goods at Kiki Bakery in Irvine. Last, he shared how PayPal will soon be a method of payment at many restaurants.
Gustavo visited Ararat Armenian Cuisine in Anaheim for his Hole In The Wall column, and gave an update on the Weekly's triannual Good Food party with KCRW (which you are invited to!) Then he tried Trader Joe's flour tortillas for Tortilla Tuesday, and was sorely disappointed. We all wish Trader Joe's could do no wrong. And last, but certainly, certainly not least, Gustavo showed us the most awesome and expensive toaster we would ever have the privilege of buying. Unfortunately, it looks like he nabbed the last one.
Dave named the Speckled Hen at The Olde Ship the Drink of the Week, and announced that Dunkin' Donuts is coming to SoCal. Then he weighed in on the issue over importing certain liquors into the U.S., and why, dammit, the amount of mL is what keeps us from doing so.
Anne Marie went for brunch at Slapfish which, not surprisingly, was amazing. Now, if we could just get Andrew Gruel to serve it to us, it'd be the best brunch in town. Next, Anne Marie interviewed Scott Brandon of the long-awaited Linx in the Orange Circle. Last, she told us about another great brewery, Valiant, opening in Orange. Hooray beer!
Shuji told us about the new Bruxie opening in Huntington Beach, and about Sola - some awesome jams that are sold at the SOCO Farmer's Market. Ali wrote about losing 5 lbs with Good Housekeeping, Bill told us about gambling and burritos for our Tijuana Sí! column, and Sarah went to Cyclo Noodles for her Long Beach Lunch.
Eat well, and happy weekend from all of us at Stick a Fork In It!
