[UPDATED Nov 8., 9 a.m.] Well, apparently the management has other ideas. Despite three separate employees, including two managers, giving the date, Steven Surfas says not yet. Watch this space for an announcement whenever they get their I's dotted and their T's crossed.
[ORIGINAL POST, Nov. 5, 8 a.m.] Surfas Culinary District, which is basically F.A.O. Schwarz for cooks and chefs, is planning to open their doors this Friday, November 9, at 3309 Hyland Ave. in Costa Mesa, at the SoCo Collection, according to employees at the Culver City location.

If you've never been to Surfas in Culver City, imagine if you took a
restaurant supply store, added Williams-Sonoma (at lower prices), and
then added rows and rows of fancy preserved foods, cheese, charcuterie,
olives, etc. If your shopping list includes four dozen swing-top
bottles, cheesecloth, an Italian olive-wood salad kit, White Lily flour, and Bayonne ham,
you park once at Surfas. They also will have a test kitchen and a cafe
that serves sandwiches, salads, coffee drinks, Italian sodas, and

Bear in mind that the opening date has been pushed back many times already; three separate supervisors at the original location in Culver City gave the same date independently this time, so Stick a Fork In It is ready to call it. No official word yet on hours, but the Culver City location is open Mon.-Sat. 9 a.m.-6 p.m., Sun. 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
Time to do those credit card stretches.
