In the wake of drought and extreme heat across the world, Great Britain is facing a bacon shortage. It's a problem that may soon become global.

A statement from Britain's National Pig Association:

New data shows the European Union pig herd is declining at a significant rate, and this is a trend that is being mirrored around the world. Pig farmers have been plunged into loss by high pig-feed costs, caused by the global failure of maize and soya harvests.

The NPA estimates that slaughterings could fall by as much as 10 percent in the second half of next year, which means the price of European pork and pork products may double. "A world shortage of pork and bacon next year is now unavoidable," the association states.

How could we have let this happen?! Did the bacon bra put us over the edge? Is Slater's 50/50 partly to blame? Will there soon be a black market for the cured meat? Is Miss Piggy's life in danger?

There's no time for questions. Gotta stock up before it's too late.

Another part of the problem is the lack of birth of piglets.

Genetically modified food, GMOs, were once suspected and now are a proven cause. Between the weird laboratory genetic combinations they insert into the plant’s DNA to resist herbicide, express proteins, make its own pesticides and the herbicide residues sprayed on the crops itself, the pig food causes miscarriage, lack of fertility and death. Now what about people eating GM crops like Roundup Ready Corn? Roundup Ready Soy? Roundup Ready Sugar Beets? Same questions arise. That’s why our family is voting Yes on Proposition 37. We’d just as soon avoid eating these Frankenfoods.

Isn't it real cause by increase grain prices, due to renewable fuels that have cause many farmers to stop raising pigs because it has become unprofitable. Given the free market, the price of bacon will go up and at some point farmers will move back into to raising them.
