McDonald's Tests Mobile Payments With PayPal

Not to be outdone by that Starbucks and Square partnership announced last week, McDonald's is reportedly testing out mobile payments with PayPal at some locations in France.

Customers would order through a McDonald's app on their smartphones or tablets and the payment would be processed by PayPal. And when they get there, there's a separate line for them to pick up their meals.

Reuters reports that the concept, which was demonstrated at a McDonald's conference in Orlando earlier this year, is expected be instituted in more McDonald's during the next couple of years.

This is all well and good, but let's get cracking on getting that "Breakfast After Midnight" thing nationwide first, because I bet there are more people who want a McMuffin at two in the morning than there are those with PayPal accounts.

I have a nasty feeling about this partnership. One of the - if not THE- world's largest fast "junk food" chain partnering with one of the most "questionable" companies. Don't get me wrong. I am a proponent of progress and change and I support mobile payments. In fact, I am using a mobile POS from mPowa (www.mpowa.com) which I am very satisfied of. But I'm still trying to figure whatever this is about.
