Mountain Dew Online Naming Contest Was A Bad, Bad Idea

Categories: Really?!?!?

It sounded like good plan. To promote its new Mountain Dew drink, Villa Fresh Italian Kitchen launched an online contest that encouraged fans to come up with a name for the green-apple-flavored concoction. The name with the most votes would win.

Now enter the world's greatest masterminds: Internet users.

Classy names that made it to the Top 10 at various points included "Fapple," "Diabeetus," "Gushing Granny," "Hitler did nothing wrong" and "Moist Nugget." Turns out the hijackers were from the infamous message board 4chan.

The campaign, called "Dub The Dew," was taken down and Mountain Dew had some cleaning up to do, saying in a statement that they are "diligently with our customer's team to remove all offensive content that was posted and putting measures in place to ensure this doesn't happen again."

Darn. A Moist Nugget sounded really refreshing.
