ORIGINAL POST, JULY 24, 11 A.M: In response to the owner of Chick-Fil-A's public opposition to same-sex marriage, the youth wing of the Gay and Lesbian Services Center of Orange County plans to protest the fast food chain's newest grand opening in Laguna Hills this Thursday, July 26.

"Basically the goal of the protest is to simply educate the community," said Laura Kanter, director of youth services at the center. She told OC Weekly that members of Youth Empowered to Act will hold signs and pass out informational flyers early morning at the opening, where the first 100 customers in line will receive a free year's supply of Chick-Fil-A.

"[We're going] to let people know where that money is being spent," said Kanter of the flyers, which list a number of anti-gay marriage causes that Chick-Fil-A funds with donations. The chain has reportedly donated nearly $2 million to anti-gay groups in 2010 alone, according to Equality Matters, an LGBT advocacy group.

Several other organizations will protest alongside YETA, including Pacific Shores NOW, Gay Neighbors, and Families and Friends of Santa Ana. According to the group's press release, they're also trying to look for and promote LGBT-friendly restaurants near the new Chick-Fil-A location.

The fast-service chicken chain has recently experienced an uptick in growth, particularly in California, where it has 49 locations--15 of which are in Orange County, including its most recent Laguna Hills site.

Last week, Cathy told the Baptist Press that he was "guilty as charged" when asked whether his company had an established position against same-sex marriage. That statement cost his chain ties with The Jim Henson Company, and support from Boston Mayor Thomas Menino who won't allow Chick-Fil-A to open a restaurant in the city.

And the protests are bound to continue with LGBT activists planning a National Same Sex Kiss Day at Chick-Fil-A restaurants across the country on Friday, August 3.

So they are protesting his intolerance of them by being intolerant of him? I'm confused.

I wonder if the LGBT community will face a reality-check when they show up to chic-fil-a and see several gay chic-fil-a team members employed there?  Or maybe they will fight ignorance with ignorance.

Very Odd Gays are the only fan group allowed to do what ever they want and push what ever idea they dream of on people and force them to accept it. I would join them but I don't like groups that force there beliefs on others.

Interesting that OC is now apparently a big target market for them.

And why wouldn't it be?

The entire county has about 5 gay and lesbian people...and that includes Queer in My Soup.

The county *does* have plenty of pseudo-evangelicals, though....

and plenty of "proper" families led by arrogant, self-absorbed ex-surfers and their Barbie wives

who will ultimately cross paths while they're both cheating on each other........

Oh I love this. We need to protest the Christian fascists all across the country.

 @jobin If someone has to make the choice between working for a company that wants to deny them their rights or not having a job and possibly going hungry or failing to support children, then no sensible LGBT person would begrudge them. But hopefully that LGBT person realizes what their big bosses stand for, and will keep looking for a job at a company that values them more.

 @jrodman72 Yeah! Certainly no other group ever forces their beliefs on anyone! Not the NRA, the Pro-Lifers, the Tea Party, the Mormons, the 9/11 Conspiracy Theorists, the Catholics...Shall I go on? On a more serious note..No one is trying to force gay marriage on everyone. It's not like everyone will be forced into a same sex marriage against their will. We just want the right to marry the person we love.

 @damotclese The president of Chik-Fil-A responded to a question about what he believes.  He's not asking for all the churches in the nation to go thumping their bibles at the gay community.

 @jrnoble How is Chik-Fil-A denying them their rights? What rights are being denied?

 @jrnoble

I didn't say no other group does it.  I was just pointing out that the fan clubs for gays are the only ones allowed to push there beliefs on others or force them to accept them. Anyone else does it it is a hate crime or some other thing. I have a lot of gay friends and.....the love thing is just a word to you guys. They are more violent & cheat other there "LOVER" more than any other group.

 @jrnoble

For sure marriage has no value in this world. The number will be greater for people who marry opposite genders. We win  by pure numbers cause we out number the  people who choose to be gay. So we win by default. Its like me counting the stars in the sky and you counting the planets. Who will have the bigger number.

I'm going by what my gay friends say and go by. Lust is one thing but Love is another. They both start with L but mean different things.

 @jrodman72 I will once again refer to the list I made of groups who are allowed to demonstrate for their beliefs. This is America, and peaceful protest is one of our most important rights. The big difference between LGBT demonstrators and groups accused of "a hate crime or some other thing" is that we are fighting for equal rights, and they are fighting to take away others' rights.  I have a lot of straight friends and...the love thing is just a word to you guys too. I bet you that I can name two straight couples for every one gay couple you can name where violence and/or infidelity happen. AND...the marriage thing is hardly a word to you guys. The divorce rate is over 50%. Kim Kardashian was married for 72 days. Tom Cruise just ended his third marriage. Kelsey Grammar is on number four. Mitt Romney claims that "one-man-one-woman" is a 3000 year old institution, when his great-great grandfather has 12 wives (One of whom was married to another man at the same time!)  So what were you saying about GLBT's being worse than any other group?
