Corazon de Tierra: Baja Med from the Ground up in Mexican Wine Country

With dogs leading the way, we walk down the hill toward the winery. In the picture, it's the area in the upper right of the photo. Focus closely and you'll see slanted roofs making up the structure. Those are boats. BOATS.

It's more noticeable when you're inside of the room, which is an incredible sight to see. And while we're on the subject, I'm not much of a drinker, but the wine we had, Villa del Valle's Vena Cava made by Villa owner Phil Gregory, was a solid red. Palatable, without bitter tannins to get in the way, it's the kind of glass I enjoy sipping on a day like this.

We walk up the hill and say goodbye to our chef and tour guide. We plan to head back to Tijuana and continue our gastronomic adventure. Before we leave, I take off my belt and throw it in the back seat.

Dave laughs.

The serious reader in the age of technology is a rebel by definition: a protester without a placard, a Luddite without hammer or bludgeon. She reads on planes to picket the antiseptic nature of modern travel, on commuter trains to insist on individualism in the midst of the herd, in hotel rooms to boycott the circumstances that separate her from her usual sources of comfort and stimulation, during office breaks to escape from the banal conversation of office mates, and at home to revolt against the pervasive and mind-deadening irrelevance of television.

The nice thing about it is that you can come and go without feeling like you've missed something. Some weeks you'll have more time than others!

Just curious.  Are any of the area's wines for sale here in OC?

L.A.Cetto, Monte Xanic are two I have found in U.S. wine shops. I'm sure there are more, but  it is the enormous cost of importing out of Mexico that stops many in the U.S. from experiencing some of the best wines in the world found right here in Baja. Baja Doc's blog (ensenada) about this explains it quite well

I've heard of them being sold in Hollywood, but never down here. Let me ask some of the wine folks...

Excellent writing, Niyaz! I'd still murder you out of jealousy, however.

What was the price like for that 7-course palate orgy? $? $$? $$$$$$$$$?
