McDonald's Manager Throws Hot Oil At Customer's Face

This must be bizarre-stories-of-violence-in-fast-food-restaurants month. There was the story about a woman being Tased after line cutting at McDonald's. Earlier this afternoon, Gustavo blogged on the machete attack at a Taco Bell in Guam. Now there's news that a manager at a McDonald's in Australia has thrown hot oil on an allegedly drunk customer who threatened to kill him.

According to the Wentworth Courier, the incident occurred at 3:30 a.m. on Friday in Sydney's King Cross section. The paper says the manager allegedly warned the man, "If you come over the counter, I'll throw oil on you."

When the man allegedly did, the manager allegedly threw the oil at the victim's face. The victim was transported to the hospital with burns to his face, chest, torso and arms.

So far, no charges were filed against the manager as authorities try to determine whether he acted in self defense.

I wasn't there so I don't know. I used to take collections for Salvation Army which meant I was alone, and dealing with all kinds of problems from people trying to leave garbage or else trying to steal. I would break the rules to sometimes give directly to the homeless, socks and clothing, necessary items. Still I have been threatened and had to throw a guy out of the trailer as he came up the stairs to attack me. At that time, to prevent him from attacking me, I'd have thrown just about anything I had at him. Hot oil, assuming meaning from the deep fryer, is pretty extreme, but if THAT threat didn't stop him from coming over the counter I imagine that he was intent on serious harm. There might have been any number of kinder weapons at hand, but the thing was to stop him quickly. Boiling oil has a long history of stopping invaders to the castle. If only this had happened at Burger King.

Did I miss something, it doesn't say whether or not it was or was not an Afro-American. And what possible difference would that make? He was threatened. He told the person what he would do it if he he tried. The customer decided to try, and the manager made good on his word. Self-defense. Race has nothing to do with any of it.
