Want to Protest the Girl Scout Cookie Boycott? There's An App For That!

Earlier this morning, Anne Marie posted about the Girl Scout Cookie ban proposed by a Girl Scout named Taylor from Ventura, California. It set my blood boiling, especially this quote:
"But most disturbing to me and my family, is that they've also admitted to already have placed transgender boys throughout America without letting everyone know."
There's a reason for this, Taylor: they probably didn't feel like putting a family into the spotlight while people like you call them freaks. Also, the last I checked, membership in the Girl Scouts was not up for popular vote, and I don't remember my sister having to submit to a panties check before reciting the Girl Scout Pledge.

The result is that I'm going to buy more Girl Scout Cookies than usual... once I find them.

Fortunately, for those of us who think your boycott is wrongheaded and prejudiced, there's a solution: the Girl Scout Cookie Locator, an app available for the iPhone through the App Store. Gone are the days of trying to figure out exactly which Walmart or Albertsons the girls would be sitting outside of and when in our desperate quest for Thin Mints. (What? What do you mean, there are other kinds of Girl Scout Cookies?)

Download it. It's free. Don't have an iPhone? Just point your browser to girlscoutcookies.org and use the online finder.

Find your Girl Scout Cookies--sales around here are from January 29 to March 11 this year--and let's buy the Girl Scouts of Orange County out of every single flavor.

I am a leader and would not care if he had a 5 o'clock shadow! I would take him and any other little boy who was looking for a place to be themselves. I am also a cubscout leader and I feel the same way for both scout groups. This little girl and her mother should be ashamed, but she better be careful of what she dislikes the most is what she will get in return.

I believe the correct response here is for everyone who  wants to protest this and who lives near this girl's family, to leave a box of girl scout cookies on their doorstep.  Wouldn't it be impressive if they awoke one morning to find thousands and thousands of girl scout cookies in their front yard?  Or if their adresss became public, to have everyone across the country ship some to them??

As a former Girl Scout and a current Girl Scout Leader, I want to say that Girl Scouts is about teaching girls how to be strong women, capable decision makers and giving them the confidence to be proud of who they are. Part of the Girl Scout Promise is to "Help people everywhere" note that it says people, not just girls!  Not even a pre-conceived notion of what makes a girl can change that Girl Scouts should include those that want to be a Girl Scout or a girl. My opinion, but there it is.

I encourage everyone to buy LOTS of cookies to protest this boycott.  On a side note, many troops will be receiving cookies at the end of January, but booth sales (at supermarkets and such) won't start until pretty close to mid February, as far as I remember, don't have the schedule in front of me - to give the girls a chance to sell cookies on their own first (and learn their own business skills).  Some troops will be taking orders and filling them later, some troops will have cookies on hand to sell from day one.  You might need to ask around for the first few weeks...or check the app!

Taylor's opinion runs counter to the ethos of the Girl Scouts, maybe she can join the Boy Scouts who seem to be less enlightened than the Girl Scouts.

I also pledge to purchase more cookies to counter her ignorance.

Don't need the appif you can navigate to http://www.girlscoutcookies.or.... There is a cookie locator (by zip code) on the site.

Thin mints are good but in my opinion Samoas are the best.

No, no, no.... Thin Mints are best.  :)

I find the Keebler Grasshopper cookies to be a reasonable facsimile in times of desperation.

Just wondering do you prefer Thin Mints at room temperature or frozen?

Was this because I'm arguing with the whacky disbelievers on the other story?

Frozen or from the fridge as long as they're cold.
