Hostess Twinkies Going Bankrupt, Again

Twinkie the Kid, your days are numbered
Kiss Twinkies goodbye, maybe. The Wall Street Journal reported today that Hostess Brands, the company that makes Twinkies, Ho-Ho's, Chocodiles and Donettes, is preparing to file bankruptcy for the second time. The company operated under Chapter 11 protection from 2004 to 2009, and this second bite of the bankrupt apple puts the company in what's called Chapter 22 status.

At a time when other giant food conglomerates are shifting their brand positioning with supposedly "whole-grain" and "heart-healthy" baked goods, will reorganization without reinvention help Hostess' many brands that haven't seen substantive changes for decades?

Is it possible that Twinkies might go away forever? Yes. Can you hoard them because they'll last forever? No. Twinkies have a long shelf life due to its low moisture and protein contents, plus the absence of dairy ingredients and addition of preservatives prolong shelf life.

So fanatics might want to consider investing in that chest freezer and a vacuum sealer to protect their hoarded stash. And a diesel generator back-up system for the freezer, in case of a power outage. And an underground diesel tank so the generator can run for weeks if it needs to.

Or, maybe buy a special cake pan and learn how to bake your own version. Or maybe, just wave as Twinkie the Kid rides off into the sunset. Goodbye, Kid, you've had a good run.

Being a 'child of the 60s' I believe (primarily) that EVERYTHING IS A CONSPIRACY~LOL~. This is possibly a ploy to raise their sales; due to hoarding, love of this product, telethons to "Save The Twinkies"...all that should keep them afloat. I refuse to believe that EVERYONE has jumped on the 'whole wheat' wagon. I believe that in millions of lunch boxes around the world, there STILL IS A HOSTESS treat to enjoy after that sandwich. dont you?

I love how people comment like they know what their talking about...  My Dad has worked for Hostess for over 30 years and the company HAS been bought by several different entities.  It's the higher ups that have screwed it all up!!!

Maybe instead of investing in all that stuff to preserve the Twinkies someone should buy the company instead!

I guess I was a foodie even when I was a kid, 'cause I always preferred the harder-to-find

Dolly Madison Zingers vs. those nasty, artificial-tasting Twinkies.

And Zingers had Snoopy on the package.

A Charlie Brown TV special never went buy without sowing a craving for those things...

not to mention the fruit pies like Peppermint Patty Peach.

Between Dolly Madison snack products and Mets tickets printed on Dairylea milk cartons,

I'm surprised my mom didn't have a breakdown and put me up for adoption.

I was always a Drake's Coffee Cake fan. Also, hate to break it to you, but Dolly Madison is a Hostess brand, as is Drake's, so both of them might be up for sale, or liquidation, or who knows what else?

Coffee cake is such a signature NY treat.  Professor, I had an excellent one from the take-out counter at Clifton's Cafeteria in September, before it closed for renovations.  And it was only 99 cents + tax!

Next time you're in downtown LA, it would be worth a detour...a worker there told me the take-out area of Clifton's would remain open during the construction...which might be finished by the Spring, anyway.
