Have you ever wondered whether those charities that leave boxes at the cash register at restaurants are real? One of these days, I'm going to take the names of some of them and do a search on Guidestar.org to see if they're real...but even my immediate skepticism doesn't make me try to steal the money.

That, however, wasn't the case for a North Carolina man.

From that slice of heaven known as Gastonia:

A Gastonia man attempted to steal a canister of money meant for the "Foundation for Teens" found at the front counter off a Taco Bell.

Jeffrey Scott Clark, 45, of 2522 Maplewood Drive, was booked into Gaston County Jail under a $3,000 bond on charges of attempted larceny and injury to personal property.

Clark went into the Taco Bell at 1329 E. Franklin Boulevard around 9:30 p.m. Sunday, according to a warrant affidavit. He asked a worker what time the dining room closed and then what time the drive through closed.

Clark then asked where the restaurant's rest room was located. Clark walked around the corner, but then attempted to take the charity canister containing money for the "Foundation for Teens" off of the counter, according to the affidavit.
