Gustavo's Taco USA: How Mexican Food Conquered America Now Available for Pre-Order!

tacousa.jpg

Mark your calendars for April 10, 2012: that's when my long-promised history of Mexican food in the United States, Taco USA: How Mexican Food Conquered America, finally hits the two bookstores left in this country.
Everyone else, of course, will probably order it on Amazon, so you might as well order it now and get a 35% discount.

More--much more--shameless self-promotion as the day nears, although more substantial than this...in the meanwhile, the first OC signing will happen at the Fullerton Public Library on April 12, inshallah.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Finally!!! Will there be an e-copy available? I'd love to read it on my iPad.

I'm refusing to shop Amazon or any other big-box retailer this holiday season (yes, really). Is there a local bookshop I can pre-order from?

I'm sure you will be able to find it at Bookman eventually.

Hell, why waste ANY money? Wait for Google Books!

Honestly, I'd rather you at least make the $.10 you get from the publisher, you deserve it. Hopefully you had a decent contract with them and get more than that.

Why would anyone pre-order anything?  Let me see.. I'm going to give some giant company what amounts to an interest free loan for four months before I get anything? Hell no!  Not to mention if you wait until May the book will be on the discount rack anyways.

(I joke)

Gustavo, I'm assuming based on your comment the book will be available for sale at the library the date of the signing?

I don't mind the idea in general, because it allows me to encumber the money while it's on my mind (don't laugh—I forget all sorts of important things if they're not uppermost in my mind at the time).

I refuse, however, to ever pre-order from bn.com or AT&T again, after the e-mails about "Sorry, guess what, we oversold, it'll be to you in four weeks."

Just wait until the first book signing at the Fullas library--and you're a mensch!

Will you sell other versions in areas that don't border on Mexico? How Italian/Chinese/French/Thai/Greek/Lebanese/Indian/etc. Conquista'd America. That way, you'll not only be much closer to the truth (as those of us who have lived all over the country know) but will also have "fuckin' four eyes can't even read"-type comebacks to negative reviews and comments. Keeps things simple.

Congratulations, Gustavo. I like the cover, and imagine what's inside is even better.
