Jeff Overley, the longest-tenured writer of the Food Frenzy blog at The Orange County Register, community reporter and restaurant critic, announced his resignation today.

Overley and his wife are moving to New York City and are about to discover the wonder of appetizing.

Zabar's will empty your wallet in one single, ecstatic rush, Jeff; Russ and Daughters alone ought to cause you to swoon with delight, and then there's Katz's. Oh, and they have some other food in New York, too.

Food Frenzy will be left in the capable hands of Claudia Koerner and a journalist to be named later. There've been many staff changes on Food Frenzy; we wish Claudia and her new colleague good luck.

Come back soon for a visit, Jeff; we'll keep the pho broth hot and the masa fina ready for you.

I read stick a fork in it along with food frenzy (espeically Jeff's positings) for really fun and useful food info. I, for one, will be sad to see him go. I also think it's cool that you guys have enough respect for each other to comment on each other's stories and to refer to each other so genuinely.

p.s. I would write this on the Register's website, but they switched posts only allowing from a Facebook account. Lame. So hope you are reading this, Jeff!

I really liked your blog, Jeff. I've learned a lot about OC food from that one and OC Weekly. I won't comment any more on the Register blogs or articles because I don't need all the Register whackos to see me real name. A pity that they went to the facebook-only comment system. Goos luck to you.

DL...regarding your comment to Mr. Overley on the Food Frenzy blog...H&H shut their UWS bagelry one day this summer. The "warehouse" store, on (I think) 12th Avenue in midtown, is still open.

But may I suggest he ride the 8th Avenue local down to 23rd Street to get a bagel at Murray's [east side of the street bet. 22nd & 23rd], where the product is 1,000x better.

And yes...Amy's Bread is NY's "La Brea," so to speak ;-)
