Today, as we do every month, we take a look at what's new and what's passed on in OC's eating scene. The past 31 days saw not one, but two openings in the dynamic Diamond Jamboree, as well as the debut of Jollibee in Anaheim. We also witnessed a few closures, including the Arches, which ended its 89-year run (though not at the same location or with the same owner) this month.

The full list of what we noticed ahead!

Did the Ritz really close?  The Register broke the story a few days ago that the evil Irvine Company would be booting it out of the space it has occupied for several decades on Newport Center Drive.  But I thought I recall that the lease wouldn't expire for some time before that happened.

I really hope the Ritz reopens elsewhere.  There's got to be room here in the land of glitzy shallow emporiums like AnQi and lines-out-the-door Taiwanese bakeries for several true "special occasion" "business lunch" "old school" restos like Ritz.

You have the strangest tastes, sometime. The Ritz had bad food, and is where Mike Carona and other scumbags used to/still roam. It's part of an OC that deserves to fade away.

I would stick to the quality of the food as I'm sure there are a few taquerias that Loretta and her fat ass sister cleaned out in their day... I would never hold that against the restaurant.

A real pro. You're late with a story -- beaten by the OC Register. You get the details wrong and then attack a reader for expressing his views. I hope your doctor, lawyer, and Indian chief have more professional skill.

It did NOT close and I enjoy the food, as does your bud Jeff over at OCR. Their hassle is with the Irvine Company and the lease, not a lack of customers. Just what we need in Newport, another gym and a "fast casual" resto.

You guys obviously don't know the history of the place, but hey: if you want to dine at a place that hosted a farewell party for a mobster on his way to the pen, be my guest!

Agreed. If I didn't go to places that allowed Republicans or Housewives- I'd never leave the house.
