CaliFire Grill Opens in Fullerton

In the eastern Mediterranean, meat wrapped in bread--regardless of whether it's called souvlakia or shawarma--gets sold from street vendors. In New York, too, such things are the demesne of corner khlav kalash carts (forever known as such by the moniker bestowed by the Simpsons), though there are little shops here and there that will do them.

Here in SoCal, though, we're a little more in love with our actual brick-and-mortar stores, and downtown Fullerton's flatbread-wrapped meat needs are now being met by CaliFire Grill, a kabobería and sandwichería that opened yesterday next to Chronic Tacos.

The menu is so easy even a drunk Cal State student could parse it: your choice of meat with accompanying sauce and vegetables wrapped up in bread, then in foil (portable, dontcha know), or put into a bowl (not as portable, dontcha know); fries and other sides; soft drinks; desserts.

We missed the preview--but look for our reactions soon.

Califire Grill, 133 W. Chapman Ave., Fullerton, (714) 578-0018; califire.com. Open Mon.-Sat., 11 a.m.-10 p.m.; Sun., 11 a.m.-8 p.m.
