Just in time for the cold snap (it'll be in the 60's by the end of the week), the Taiwanese hot pot restaurant called Boiling Point has opened in Irvine offering gurgling, simmering stews that on its website
it describes as "So hot. So bubbly. So stinky. So wanty!"
The popular San Gabriel mini-chain, which started sometime around 2007 specializing in the Sterno-heated dish, already has stores in Arcadia, Hacienda Heights, and Monterey Park, not to mention a few out of state. The newest in Irvine (in the same plaza as Buffalo Wild Wings and Caspian on Culver near the 5) actually had its soft-opening on October 19th, according to their website.
A store in Gardena opened a few weeks earlier.
