Dr. Andrew Weil to Appear at True Food Kitchen on Thursday

​When True Food Kitchen was announced, I had my doubts about the concept and rolled my eyes when I heard one of the people involved was a doctor. "This was a line I had hoped would never be crossed," I wrote in my review.

That doctor is Andrew Weil, whom you've probably seen on magazine covers and Larry King Live, proselytizing on the subject of integrative medicine, the field he pioneered and parlayed into best-selling books. If you think you've never heard of the guy, Google him, and you'll realize you have.

Well, since it opened last year, I've gone back to True Food Kitchen and had more than a few good experiences and one lackluster one. I am not, by any measure, a fan boy. But judging by the wait times on some nights, there must be a few out there who not only like the restaurant, but would also like to hear what the man has to say about food and nutrition.

This Thursday, the doctor is in. Weil will speak about veganism and vegetarianism, and then his chef will demonstrate a few dishes and present a variety of vegan and vegetarian food and beverages served buffet-style.

The cost is steep: $45 per person, not including tax or gratuity.  Space is limited to approximately 50 spots. If you're interested, RSVP by calling (480) 751-2176. Prepayment is required; you would need to cancel 48 hours in advance for a refund, but that has already passed as you read this.
