Could this have been prevented with a glass of Merlot?
Here's some news we can use. Like, now.

A new study by the University of Barcelona and the Spanish National Research Council has found that drinking wine (or simply eating grapes) can help to protect you from a nasty sunburn. Apparently, the flavonoids in the fruit can halt the chemical reaction that zaps skin cells when UV rays hit, limiting sun damage. (See the even more science-y explanation here.)

The Telegraph reports that cosmetic companies are already trying to make creams and pills that mimic the process. (Or you could, uh, simply drink more wine.)

Pinot Coppertone, anyone?
