ORIGINAL POST: JULY 19, 2011 12:45 P.M.: It's official! The Belgian waffle-sandwich restaurant signed a lease yesterday to open their second shop in the location that formerly housed Fatburger on the corner of West Birch Street and Walnut Avenue in downtown Brea.
The original location instantly rocketed to success. Its formula of high-quality ingredients stuffed into a crisp, savory waffle (none of which exceeds $8) resounds with fans in a tight economy.
Favorites of ours include regular-menu standbys such as the savory smoked salmon, herb cream cheese and cucumber, as well as such fleeting daily specials as a fresh fig crème brûlée dessert sandwich. That one featured a vanilla pastry cream with a crisp layer of burnt sugar topped with perfectly ripe, sweet Mission figs sourced from the recently launched Orange Home Grown farmers market, held two blocks away every Saturday morning.

Mullarney quoted a planned opening in Brea in September 2011 when we spoke with him about it in late June. The typical construction and permitting hurdles might push back the opening date a bit. You heard it here first!
