Filmmakers Wanted At Taco Asylum

Costa Mesa's taco asylum welcomes independent filmmakers looking for a space to screen their projects. With productions costs being what they are, you're going to turn down a free screening room with a big HD screen? And one that serves great beers and food to watch by?

There is a catch: you'll have to apply by sending an email to film@tacoasylum.com with your film title, synopsis, trailer (if you have one), and contact info. They'll let you screen your film on a Sunday night at 7 p.m. -- you can invite all your friends to check it out over a few brews. They'll also tweet your event to their followers to come check out your film.

In recent months, taco asylum has featured concert films on Dinner and a Movie Thursday Nights. We emailed Executive Chef Greg Daniels to ask about their interest in films.

How did the interest in hosting movie nights happen, and why the shift toward original movies?
The main objective of introducing the film screenings at taco asylum is to provide an opportunity for individual or groups to come together and unwind every Thursday night. With the warmer weather and longer days, we have been noticing an increase of late-night guests, and by selecting films that don't focus on dialogue, folks can still interact, order food, and come and go as they please while still taking advantage of the complimentary film.

The idea to launch original screenings is rooted in giving the many talented artists that come in and out of taco asylum every day, a place that they can express themselves -- and with our flatscreen, it made sense to start with filmmakers.

Are there any special menu items for movie night? Something with popcorn, or candy involved?
Well, we featured a special taco to coincide with a "dinner and a movie" and it was a hit, so this week, we'll be rolling out an Argentinian Steak with Potato Hash, Crispy Onions, and Chimichurri Sauce.
