[UPDATED with Schedule] Bruxie: Lobster Waffles for Fourth of July

"Yo Dawg, I heard you like lobster so I put a lobster on your lobster roll..."

UPDATE, JUNE 30, 8:30 A.M.: The lobster sandwich is a one-day-only special for this July 4. Bruxie will start serving the lobster roll at 11 a.m., not when they open at 9 a.m. Supplies are limited, no rainchecks, when they run out, they run out, no whining, yadda yadda.

ORIGINAL POST, JUNE 29: What's a more American dish than lobster and waffles? Actually, lots of things. But that's how the house of Belgian waffles in Old Towne Orange rolls on this Fourth of July.

It's Bruxie's take on a lobster roll, only instead of a butter-griddled New England-style roll, it's using an airy, yeasted, Belgian-style, savory waffle stuffed with chilled Maine lobster meat.

The Fourth of July special combo features the lobster waffle sandwich, an order of waffle fries and a cane-sugar-sweeteend black-cherry soda for the patriotic price of $17.76. But wait -- that's not all. For $2 more, you can ask for applewood-smoked bacon and some vine-ripened tomato to make a Lobster BLT.

Pricy? Compared to Bruxie's other sandwiches, which all cost less than $8, it is. But its owners are flying live Maine lobsters into their tiny postage stamp-sized kitchen. Not some unpatriotic travesty like frozen Australian slipper lobster tails or, worse, those not-even-real-lobster, godammned langostinos -- no sir, these are real, North Atlantic lobsters, pulled from cold New England waters.

You know, New England, the cradle of the American Revolution? That place where Paul Revere warned the British they're not gonna take away our arms? Maybe there isn't a more American dish after all.

That looks good and I'm tempted, but at that price, I'll pass.  I also don't want to wait in line behind 30 annoying yelpers to get it.
