Jamie Oliver Coming to Santa Ana!

Jamie Oliver, savior of fat families and scourge of school districts, is bringing his food revolution to the OC city that needs it the most: big, bad, brown Santa Ana.

Gawd, the stats on SanTana--I do believe it's one of the fattest cities in the United States, with one of the worst parkland-per-person ratios in this country, a place that couldn't support a farmers' market--and now Jamie's coming to save the wabs!

The revelation is in a Los Angeles Times story highlighting Oliver's Food Revolution truck--not some mini luxe lonchera, but a big rig, the kind my daddy hauls across Southern California, except tricked out as a cooking school and amusement park.

There's no date yet for the Food Revolution's invasion of Santa Ana or where, although I wouldn't be surprised if Oliver teams up with the fine nonprofit Latino Health Access, which has been tackling for a good decade the very problems Oliver decries. Details to come. . . .

In the meanwhile, Jamie? Make sure to talk to all those Mexi families with healthy-ass nopales growing in their back yards that you ain't going to get at farmers' markets. . . .

Jamie Oliver U need 2really come 2 SAUSD...U would see what a lame excuse of a food service director we have and all the mistakes Mark Chavez makes and how the district pays consultants to do his job!!!! All this with our tax payers money...

We are so despearete here..the State came back and SAUSD is keeping a tight lid on the results..YET Mark Chavez, former hamburger Mc Donald's graduate is still our director.....inquiring minds want to know how a person with approximately 4 years of school food service expirience has a job running a district of 33 million dollar budget?

These are all our opinions.....and ALLEGATIONS...just to be clear....but it seems like someone is doing this Napoleon rookie a political favor....funny...Mark Chavez's father works (so we are told) at LA Unified..did Mr. Bishop come from LA Unified?

We also know that Mark Chavez used to work with Thelma/Superintendent at another district, by the way SAUSD is the only district where Mr. Chavez has been a Food Service Director..prior to that he was an Operations Manager at a smaller district, then an Asst. Diretor, at another smaller district....totalling approximately 4 years....while working at Costco in the meat department...

So, we are compelled to ask...how did Mark Chavez land a Food Service Director job at a district our size??? Political favors?....we are not accusing..just asking....WONDERING!!!

SAUSD, we have a great Asst. Director now....he should be our leader...just our opinions.

The Santa Ana Certified Farmers' Market had healthy-ass nopales!...and some residents also brought Pitaya (dragon fruit) from their backyards to share. We're bringing the Market back!...and even better than before. Hopefully Jaime partners with the fine nonprofit The Grain Project as well, to help support the efforts to build a healthy community (along w/LHA and others!) to have local-produce farmers' markets various days of the week in various parts of the city (we have the population to support it, and as you mention, the need is grand) as well as push for the Farm-to-School and school garden initiatives for SAUSD! LAUSD has well over 300 schools with gardens that provide greens and veggies for their cafeteria....SanTana has maybe three - and those don't supplement the cafeteria at all.

I love Jamie Oliver! Ever since I saw his show Food Revolution i started making my daughter a healthy lunch for school at least 3xs a week.. He is awesome..
