Kat, Eric's wife, is coming home from the hospital today. Eat Chow is happy for her speedy recovery because we love her. We've missed her a lot.

Eric Doran was originally scheduled to be our featured chef for last week's On the Line; he even sat down for a photo session with us. However, co-owner Brian McReynolds told us two weeks ago Eric wouldn't be able to conduct the interview as previously planned, so we tried to reschedule our interview for another time. We were able to take pictures of Eric, and we looked forward to catching up with his many talents.

But tragedy struck early Friday morning, as Doran and his wife were involved in a collision along Highway 101 in Ventura County en route to a car show. Doran passed away; his wife sustained serious injuries but survived.

Eat Chow opened its doors in 2009 inside the Closet clothing store off Newport Boulevard to immediate praise, and Eric had been planning for some time to open a second restaurant.

Eat Chow's Facebook page is filled with the memories of fans, friends and family, to whom our thoughts and prayers go out. Services are pending, and we will publish the details as they become available. As our own tribute, after the jump are the photographs taken earlier this month by John Gilhooley of Eric displaying his culinary talent. Requiescat in pace, Eric; your kindness will not be forgotten, and your genius will live on with the thousands of people who'll forever remember your wonderful creations.
