After twelve years and nearly 250 episodes as The Food Network's premiere, and frankly, most educational and useful cooking show, Good Eats will end its run, Alton Brown announced today via Twitter.

The host said, "G.E. fans, I've decided to cut the half hour series at 249 eps. There will be 3 new 1 hour eps this year and that's it. But mourn not."

In subsequent tweets he reiterated that the show wasn't being cancelled, and that it was entirely his decision. "Cancelled means the network cancelled it's order. I'm retiring it. That means it was, and is, my choice."

He added that "It will live on in reruns for decades...centuries."

To another Twitterer who bemoaned the show's demise, Brown put it quite succinctly in the way only Alton Brown could, "Stop talking about me like I'm dead...or dying. It's not a tumor."
