In-N-Out Demolishes Oldest Remaining Location to Build Museum Honoring Said Location

• The amount of community pressure it took for McDonalds not to demolish the one in Downey was impressive. They immediately declared the building unsafe within a few hours of the Whittier earthquake (which it turned out wasn't true), apparently because the location was not considered an earner. I think it's less OC when these things happen than it is corporate.

• Perhaps, yes. Meet you at Celinda's for a Chile Relleno. Maybe you will share the secret of how a food critic manages to maintain a slender visage (not photochop, we hope).

• You should call yourself RSM Guy haha! No comment from the In-n-Out people, but they've said in the past the building was antiquated. Maybe, but heaven knows they have money to upgrade, like McDonald's did with its classic Downey location...

• I enjoy your work, (even when you bag on my beloved RSM), and must ask, do we know why this action was taken? Unfortunately, many historical structures have been deemed unsuitable for other uses, due to the more stringent post-1987 earthquake codes. Recognizing that the organization in question is a bit secretive, it would be interesting to know the rationale, here. Thanks, G.A. !

• I don't think this is true, I remember watching Huell Howser do a show at this location and they specifically said it wasn't the the original nor the oldest location. I think they said the oldest location was demolished for a freeway expansion.

• No, their burgers are still what they've always been. But the massive expansion efforts, the disregard for themselves? Not so much...

• There are some people at my work that are big fans off Five Guys. I like to stir it up and talk about how In N Out is so much better. I do it more to get a rise out of them and because its a California Institution and I am proud to be a Californian. I am running out of things to attack Five Guys with. Its mostly out of fun, but I thought I would turn to the readers for more ammo. Here is what I have said everything steams in that foil wrapper so its a soggy mess and the lettuce wilts fries are totally limp expensive

• Great post - and sad. I recently visited the oldest operating McDonalds (the third restaurant in its history) in Downey and was breathless. At least there, the museum was built next to the structure. To me, this is just another sign of the decline of (the allegedly once mighty, before I moved to Cali) In N Out.
