Fullerton Arboretum's Annual Monster Tomato and Pepper Sale THIS WEEKEND!

fullerton-tomato-130.jpg
Whether it's heat or sweet, red or green, there is something for you in Fullerton this weekend. The Monster Tomato and Pepper Sale occurs once a year, and with more than 100 varieties of peppers and 250-plus tomato types to choose from, that salsa recipe will never be the same.

Thursday was a "members only" sale at the arboretum, but from now until Sunday, the rest of us can join in on the juicy festivities. All the peppers and tomatoes present were organically grown at the Fullerton Arboretum, and proceeds go right back into funding the grounds, which include the museum and Heritage House. Admission is free, but donations aid the development of the gardens and future activities.

Specifics after the jump!

For those of you wondering, I looked, and Bhut Jolokia, a.k.a. the infamous Ghost Pepper, will indeed make an appearance. I'm gonna check out the Chocolate Beauty Hybrid, considered one of the sweetest bells available. Representing the other vegetables fruit, we go from a miniature Yellow Pear tomato all the way to the Big Zac, which start at 3 pounds for one.  Holy caprese salad, Batman!

If you would like a comprehensive list of what's for sale, click here for the tomato list and here for the peppers. Sale hours each day are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., so pack those reusable bags and get shopping.

I highly suggest getting a Hawaiian Currant tomato plant if you go. It producers tiny little tomatoes that are about the size of a pea but pack a ton of taste. Grew some last year and the kids and I would just eat them straight off the vine.
