Edible Gardening Workshop Series Debuts This Weekend in Irvine
Located in the same plaza as Saturday's UC Irvine farmers' market, you can pick up some local produce, then learn how to grow your own, all without moving your vehicle. If your green thumb isn't feeling confident, that's what Cooke is there for. The man has credentials and a name that fits the bill.
Formerly the technical director of Food Forestry International in Los Angeles, Cooke also spends time teaching agricultural science to children and adults. His farming experience includes assisting in the development of gardens in Oregon, Florida and Kenya. Discussion topics include learning how to grow within your budget, utilizing commonly found materials to fill your urban landscape, and demonstrating how easy one can grow food in both large and small spaces.
If feeding both body and mind sounds good, then clear your Saturday. Start time is 11 a.m., and calling ahead is recommended. UCI students will receive a discount.
