Jamie Oliver Not Allowed Inside LA Schools

Categories: News

Jamie Oliver, the Naked Chef turned food activist, was forced to halt the filming of his ABC show Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution at West Adams Preparatory High School in South LA last week after he couldn't guarantee he wouldn't make the district look bad on TV.

The LAUSD spokesman cited the unwanted drama and unflattering light Oliver's show cast on a West Virginia school district during the show's first season as a reason why they ultimately denied permitting the reality chef to continue his production, the LA Times reports.

The show will continue to film outside the school, though it is uncertain whether it will generate the kind of hilariously eye-opening scene as the one from the first season, shown above.

Growing up in school.. we always ALWAYS had the option for healthy sandwiches and salad bars.. elementary through high school. and they were a part of the low income free lunches. I was also raised to not eat fast food often if at all in most options we always had a meal cooked by my mother and we sat down together. I never really thought it made me that much different from other people my age, but after meeting my husbands family.. i notice a massive difference.

People just seem to not know the truth about what is served and why it is served.

Let me tell you: the kids who could pay for their own lunches? Most of the time choose poorly.

The ones who are 'subsidised'? They HAVE to take what we give them. And that is a commodity based product with a balanced fruit/vegetable/protien 'ration'. What they do with it after it is served is beyond control. But I guarantee: a kid eating one meal a day is eating what is served PLUS whatever they can find given by their friends buying the fires/pop tarts/ muffins/ bagels...

What Jamie wants to change is not something the US has control over. It is all school district based. It may be different in his country and I resepct that but because it worked in one place doesn't mean it can in others. To put anyone down because they take care of their own? You should just move on.

When will we each make a difference???? Stop eating food that is not healthy, and our kids will do the same. If we continue to do the politically correct method, schools, government or any other institution will be sending the same old message. Support local farmers, community garden programs, farmers markets and Co-Ops. Each of us can make a difference...

These school systems should focus on education and raising productive, non douche bag, future adults.

Look at how those kids act. Check out the white trash mohawk on that one kid.

We are ranked something like 40th in the world with academics.

Why don't the parents make nutritious lunches for their kids and we can use our time and money to focus on actual schooling.

School lunch in S. Cal is a welfare program anyway.

here is a novel ideaits called personal responsibilityits called the absence of parental neglectinstead of expecting the government to make everyone's child a healthy lunchwhy don't the parents?because they are lazy

Really sad really. Jamie has done so much for our children health in the UK, and across the world. We didnt moan about how we would be percieved on tv, and nor did anyone else. Its ridiculous. They have made themselves look ridiculous by halting it. Ive never seen children eat so bad since watching a episode of the programme. But like everything, with the right knowledge, everything could have been diffrent. The US were given that oppertunity to help save their children by just altering the food in the schools. They ARE killing there kids. And it'll be too late for some as they continue to push this warning away as nonsense. WAKE UP USA.

I recognize what you are saying but people just don't realize how difficult it is to change anything in the school lunch programs in the US. This story sheds a bad light on what the real reason is for not being able to help the kids eat healthier. In SoCal alone I know I have worked in certain kitchens where we had to bid on commodities a year ahead of knowing what we would even be serving! Add to that the amount of free lunches and reduced lunches being offered? The numbers factored in cover kids that are not eating anything BUT what they get at school only 5 days a week.

if you take that and multiply it by 5 days? You get approx 2500 calories. Go ahead and divide 2500x7... yeah. These kids are eating less than 500 calories PER DAY.

Jamie's program isn't worth the 'beautiful' he thinks he can offer unfortunately.
