Shore House Cafe in Long Beach Closed?

Huntington Beach's Shore House Cafe closed last summer. The Seal Beach one bit the dust around the same time, citing "redevelopment plans by property ownership." The Shore House Cafe in San Clemente isn't called that anymore, revamping itself as something called The Shore.

Now, according to The Long Beach Gazette's Darcy Leigh Richardson, the Shore House Cafe in Long Beach may be next. She reports that the 24-hour restaurant was summarily shut down this past Monday, with windows covered, doors locked up and a sign that said "closed for remodeling," all allegedly done without informing some of its employees.

The Gazette quotes an unnamed Shore House worker who said, "We were told nothing of the closure until the girl scheduled to work at 6 a.m. went to work (Monday) and found herself locked out. . . . I arrived at 7:30 a.m. and saw all the cooks moving all the food and furniture out the back door and loading it into vans."

The Newport Beach Shore House Cafe remains open.

Good, shut it down and put something there with good food/service. This place is a greasy, filthy dump.

Has Edwin been punished by OC Weekly or something to only read press releases and regurgitate already covered stories in this blog? Restaurant openings and closing previously announced by other publications, without reviews, , info from other websites, regurgitation of Restaurant News, etc. You are better than this, Edwin.

Only things unique lately have been coming from Shuji and Dave.

I hope they aren't moving. That's the best restaurant in Long Beach. It was place I aspired to take my kids to one day; I really hope it isn't closing.

Hate to break it you, but Edwin ain't the only one. Try the whole news industry. Everyone is an aggregator. Shuji's story on Captain Cream came from a scoop from The Lake Forest Patch. Who reads The Lake Forest Patch if not for these guys.

Personally I found this post useful because I don't read The Long Beach Gazette. I read this blog to catch up on news like this. Thankful I did too. I was going to take my parents there for a weekend brunch on Sunday. This saved me the trip. I'm also glad the post noted that there's one in Newport. I was a customer of the Seal Beach one before it closed. Never knew there was one in Newport.

I somewhat agree with you. This is more of an obscure OC'ish story. So you probably would not read about it in the mainstream and it is about something OC. But the crap about Nestle, or all the stuff from Restaurant News that hits the mainstream, the Taco Bell crap, is way too much. It wouldn't mind if there were more reviews, relevant pieces, unique pieces, mixed in by those authors. It just seems like its been heavily tilted on regurgitation lately. Look at the difference between that kinda stuff and the stuff Dave regularly puts out.

Edwin is a good writer when he puts his mind to it, doesn't ramble, and stays away from things that have nothing to do with food (like the chiang kai shek bullshit he put into his Liang's Kitchen review) , and has interesting pieces that mostly show up on his blog these days. He is much better than just doing a piece on "this restaurant opened" and "this restaurant closed" without saying much more about the places or food.

Even Gustavo is a good writer when he stays away from assclownery and all the political stuff , trying to make an agenda laden statement about something outside of food in the food blog. When he puts his mind to it, he writes about unique food things that are far from main stream and interesting. I have learned a little about Mexican Food and culture from a few of his write ups.

Just want more of that.

Will have to agree to disagree with you. I don't mind the aggregation of news items. More info is better than less info. I only have time to check a few news sites during my day, and this one's one of them. It's got a good mix of everything. Food reviews are a dime a dozen with all the blogs out there and Yelp. This blog has just the right recipe of reviews, restaurant and general food news, not to mention the occasional frivolous monkey videos to lighten my day. This is a well-rounded blog in my opinion.
