Hollywood Farmers' Market in Danger of Getting Chopped Down at Best, Closed at Worst

​It's not Orange County, but the Hollywood Farmer's Market is a Southern California institution, one that draws tens of thousands of people to the corner of Selma and Ivar avenues--and more than a few of them are from Orange County. I know of one local chef in particular, who's going to wow the state with a bold, new food concept, who's now visiting every weekend.

But the landscape will soon change. Over the weekend, the chef of the Farmer's Kitchen, the restaurant that anchors the Hollywood Farmer's Market, told me about a disturbing development: the Los Angeles Film School wants the city of Los Angeles to not renew the permit for the market that allows it to shut down Selma, where the clown college has an ramp to its garage. So, after 20 years of no complaints, the Farmer's Market will be chopped down, and its livelihood at stake.
The Farmer's Market is meeting with city officials today, but there are already petitions going around--for more information, visit the Sustainable Economic Enterprises of Los Angeles (which runs the market) website.

This is also a reminder for those of us who enjoy farmers' markets that bring joy in parking lots (the one across the street from UC Irvine) or streets (the Anaheim version) that malcontent businesses can easily shut them down. Be vigilant at all times...
