Taco Bell Crime of the Week: Fake Robbery!

​"Man Bites Dog" is the classic, guaranteed news story. "Fake Taco Bell Robbery" should join it in the halls of journalism school as a tale that rises from the churn of dozens of weekly Taco Bell robberies and becomes something rather bizarre. From something called Torrington in something called Connecticut. How backwards is this town? They still print the home addresses of arrested folks, something newspapers stopped doing in the 1960s...:

Police on Friday charged the manager of the High Street Taco Bell in connection with what they called a "staged robbery" at the restaurant late Thursday evening.

Police said they were summoned to the restaurant on a report that a man whom police were initially given a detailed description of had attempted to rob the store, then fled. After police spent an hour investigating, they determined the crime was staged, Lt. Bruce Whiteley said in a news release.

Police charged store manager Theresa L. Miller, 25...with breach of peace and interfering with an officer. She was released on $1,500 bond for a Nov. 29 appearance in Bantam Superior Court.
