Taco Bell Crime of the Week: Employees Stealing Your Credit Card Info!
A credit card scam that allegedly defrauded numerous people involved two Taco Bell employees who used "skimming" devices to copy card numbers, and two others who masterminded the fraud, detectives say.
The allegations against Roger Torres, 38, of Caledonia, and Onil Rivas-Perez, 36, of Byron Center, are contained in a probable cause affidavit that details multiple purchases. Many involved hundreds of dollars at a time.
Torres and Rivas-Perez did not work for Taco Bell, but allegedly ran the now-stopped scheme. According to Kent County sheriff's detectives, Torres admitted to giving two credit card skimming devices -- small black boxes that allow someone to slide a card and store the card number -- to two Taco Bell employees, who have not been charged.
