As we blogged back in May, a new ramen shop called Shizuma Ramen was being developed in Irvine in the same plaza as Pho Ba Co and Layer Cake Bakery. Well, earlier this month it opened.

And from the early Yelp reviews, we begin to see what the place's M.O. is about. Soups are served in plastic bowls, and the prices reflect the fast-foodiness.

One thing's for sure: The Yelpers seem decidedly kinder to this one than they have been to Mizuki, the last ramenya to debut in Irvine.

So far the lower prices have spared them the kind of up-in-arms blowback that Mizuki's prices seemed to inspire across the board.  And a good thing too.  If you see what's next door to Shizuma in the picture above, it saved itself from an easy punchline.
