Huntington Beach Restaurant Week Coming Soon, With Fabulous Competition!

Yes, folks, more dates for your diary: May 26 to June 2, when various Surf City restaurants will be taking part in the inaugural Huntington Beach Restaurant Week.

It's all in aid of charity--in this case, Project Self-Sufficiency, which helps low-income, single-parent families. So get chowing (as if you needed an excuse!!).

So far, a dozen restaurants, bars and pubs are confirmed, but more are expected to sign up before the event kicks off.

The venues are running prix fixe menus, ranging from cheap 'n' cheerful to gourmet, at lunch and/or dinner.

Some deals are veritable steals, such as the Longboard's $10 two-course lunch, which includes a first course, a burger or sandwich and a drink.

Aloha Grill, for its part, is offering a $15 set menu for lunch, featuring a huge choice of sandwiches, and a $20 one for dinner, including a yummy-sounding Hawaiian Pineapple Upside Down Cake.

For an upmarket dinner at downmarket prices, there's Savannah at the Beach, whose $20 menu includes filet mignon, king crab legs or catch of the day. It's even throwing in a drink, but don't get too excited: it's coffee, tea or soda.

On the other hand, at Spark Woodfire Grill, a glass of wine (from a selection of three) is part of the deal, although, admittedly, this three-courser is more expensive, at $30.

Perusing the menus, my eyes were also drawn to the Grilled Prime Hangar Steak with a Smoked Yukon Potato Cake, Watercress Salad and Cipollini Onion Vinaigrette, one of the options on the $30 dinner prix fixe at Shades.

For the list of restaurants taking part, and their menus, visit the official website, which will be updated regularly.

But if that makes you even more decisive, why not try your luck at winning a progressive dinner, where you and up to nine friends can win a trip on board an OC Cruiser truck and eat one course at each of four of the participating restaurants.

The prize is worth up to $2,000, so make sure you enter--CLICK HERE--by the June 2 deadline.
