Things to put down on your day planner, your iPhone calendar, Blackberry, or whatever: January 18-22 is going to be the Third Annual Newport Beach Restaurant Week. This is the time when a selected roster of restaurants will be offering a three-course prix fixe for $15 or $20 for lunch, and $20 or $35 for dinner.
Though I've never been, I had an amazing lunch once at
Lucques in L.A. during a similar event a few years ago. A three-course meal for what's usually the price of an entree -- that's hard to beat.
Open Table has a list of participating restaurants and which price points they've chosen.

Not to be outdone, the newly-formed Orange County Restaurant Association is also going to do an event encompassing the whole of O.C. on February 22-28.
Their participants will also offer a discounted prix fixe and specialty menus for $20, $30 or $40 per person. Not all of the restaurants have been inked, but those that are already on board seem an impressive bunch.
