Angels Fans: Why Do you Let Dodgers Fans Invade Angels Stadium so Easily?

Categories: Sports

I tuned into the Los Angeles Dodgers version of their game last night versus your Anaheim Angels on KABC-AM 790--only the bottom of the ninth, as the Halos failed in their comeback attempt. As each batter failed to do much, the roar of the crowd got louder and louder, prompting Dodgers broadcaster Charlie Steiner to make some remark about the Blue Crew nation and how they always travel well. But what I was hearing yesterday was full-fledged Reconquista.

This is nothing new, of course, but it got me thinking. When the Angels play the Dodgers at Chavez Ravine, as they did recently, Angels fans show up in big numbers but nowhere near as large an invading crowd as what Dodgers bring to Angels Stadium. I wish both of the teams well (I'm a Cubs fan and made my peace long ago with that), but it's painful to see home teams get invaded and lose in the fan department. Angels fan are much more smug than Dodgers fans, forever hold themselves as so much more civilized than the Doyers hordes, but isn't it telling that those wabs care enough about their team to actually go and see the team in action? I know I'm rambling here, but this post is more of an excuse to see the two sides go at it; such interactions are the best back-and-forth on this blog after pedo-priest apologists and sex-abuse victims. All right, Angels fans: defend your honor!

I'm a Doyer fan since I was 7 years old. I am now 41 and watch them in San Diego and Anaheim. I don't think there are a lot of TRUE angel fans. Most angel fans began being fans after they won the world series which aggravates the REAL fan. I bet they don't remember those great players they used to have like Brian Downing and Don Baylor or even Bobby Grich. On the other hand Dodger fans know their history and players like Steve Garvey and Ron Cey. I'll even go way back Mike Marshall the closer. We take over Angel stadium because we can. We know baseball and don't have to fire off fireworks for every home run we hit. The Angels have always been in it to entertain the OC crowd and their kids, which is fine. I love going to cheer my team and boo my team when they don't do well. I only know 2 fans that really love the Angels and have been a fan for many years. Message to all Angel fans stick with your team not only when they make the World Series but also when the team is not doing so well. That's what makes you a real fan. NOT A BANDWAGON FAN THAT LET'S THE OTHER TEAMS TAKE OVER YOUR STADIUM

Angels fans don't head north for the freeway series because:
they don't want to deal with the god awful freeway system through downtown
they don't want to deal with the god awful entrances and exits to chavez ravine
they don't want to pay $15 to park
or pay $30 for a lousy seat in a hideous ballpark
$13 tecate? give me a break.
they don't want to watch joe saunders embarrass himself at the plate
& last, but not least:
dodger dogs suck

Although I've lost interst in overpaid, never-quite-grown-up-kids playing games, I do remember Don Baylor. He was a true gentleman off the field and a great player on.

Angels all the way says:

you couldn't have put it any better.. truly an invasion of Doyers fans. it's one thing to come to our stadium with your house speakers, sounding like you have an arrangement of tuba players in the back of your chevy's... but to let your women wear war paint (sharpie eyebrows and kabuki theatre make-up) is another.

After attending the game last night I will never ask my father a season ticket holder for over 40 years for a Dodger game again! I took my daughter to this game, we took a little walk to visit some friends in the "View Section" WOW it was like walking into a war zone. Should you actually feel scared walking around the stadium?

Why might I ask do people waste good money buying tickets to a game to get so drunk that they can barely stand up? Who drives these people home? Do many Dodgers fans bear their asses during the 7th inning stretch and get thrown out of the stadium? My daughter asked me if it was the norm for 15 to 17 year olds girls decked out in Dodgers gear and blue eyeshadow to match to bring their babies to the games because we saw more than a few.

I have gone to several Red Sox vs. Angels games I thought they were rowdy bordering on ridiculous. I thought many of the Red Sox fans were classless. But let me tell you something they had nothing on these Dodger fans!

Dodger Blueman says:

Hey Tron...

1) The OC freeways suck just as bad if not worse... ORANGE CRUSH anyone?

2) Angels stadium has those screwed up seats if left field that have an obstructed view, now that's GREAT architectural planning!

3) Dodger Dogs tastes about as good as the fake boobs your GF totes around with her, and that fake honey blonde hair does wonders for her IQ too.

Your stadium sucks, your team sucks, your fans suck even more, especially the ones with the fake boobs. And if you're from OC the fake boobs could be either male or female cause that's how they roll in the OC.

Now I realize why the Clippers said NO THANKS to playing at Honda as their home court. The OC fans just suck that's why.

Art Pedroza says:

Gustavo,

I went to the game where Billingsley pitched for the Dodgers, on Friday night. The Angels pulled it out after the rally monkey came out, I kid you not.

My six year old was thrilled. He is a big Angels fan. I however am a Dodger fan - I grew up in L.A. But I cheered for the Angels so as to mollify my boy.

The guys behind us were puro East L.A. I had fun ribbing them all night. They had NO CLUE about baseball history. So I spent the night educating them. They were pretty funny. They loved shouting out "Angels Suck," which just tweaked my boy to no end.

The Dodgers fans were so energetic compared to the Angles fans. One pelon even got himself arrested! Pobre guay.

I hate driving to the Dodgers stadium, so this was a real treat. I still can't believe the Angels pulled it out.

Gustavo, why not wetbacks instead of wabs?

Luisa says:

Gustavo,
Your comment about Dodger fans being wabs is rude and ignorant. Dodger fans are not wabs and even then it is unnecessary to make that type of derogatory reference if your article is about Dodger fans outnumbering Angel fans at home. More adequately stated is that the Dodger fans are a majority and take pride in going to see their team (win or lose) at another stadium other than their own. So be it. If we didn’t fill those seats then who would? You can get your point across without having to point out a fan’s ethnicity. After all, isn’t baseball America’s favorite pastime?

junior,

Nice try - but you need to let Luisa know that Gustavo is just a d*ick to everyone - including his own.

Posted On: Wednesday, Jun. 24 2009 @ 7:34PM
Gustavo Arellano says:

Luisa: Lighten up—I was joking. In another post on the topic, I made the observation that Dodgers fans who happen to be Mexican are actually MORE assimilated than Angels fans. That sparked a lot of racist Angels fans saying THEIR Mexicans weren't like that—really entertaining, and guess what? I defended your kind! And if you want more such arguing against racist, I suggest you find the post we did on the death of Nick Adenhart.

Junior: It's not my blog. Don't you have racism somewhere to make excuses for?

Angel fan: Nah, I'm just a dick to idiots. Luisa isn't; you, on the other hand...

Gustavo Arellano says:

Oh, and let the record show that "junior" and "Angel Fan" are one and the same coward who doesn't dare post his real name anymore. Junior: Consider yourself warned. Do any more trolling, and you're banned from Navel Gazing.

Posted On: Thursday, Jun. 25 2009 @ 10:30AM
junior & Angel Fan says:

ooohh ..., I am so frightened. I may be banned from Gustavo's blog.

What is the big effen deal Gustavo? I bet a lot of people use different anonymous names - I did it once. It is not like I make a habit of posting as different anonymous names. I did it once for a little levity - anyone can see that the posts were made within minutes of each other.

BTW - If it were not for anonymous posts you would have exactly ZERO comments on this article - other than Art Pedroza, who is another two-bit blogger like you.

If you want to ban me - then effen ban me, life will go on just dandy for both of us.

I think that you don't like me because I disagree with you on just about every issue, and I make good arguments - that frustrates you.

So do it already - ban me!!

Posted On: Thursday, Jun. 25 2009 @ 1:23PM
Gustavo Arellano says:

Coward: There's a difference between posting anonymously and posting under different names. I don't have a problem with the former; the latter isn't allowed and is cowardly. What do you have to hide? Shit, you already don't post under your real name, and now you have to use others (and this isn't the first time you've done this, I might add)? What a wuss.

And don't get a big ego—I don't like you or dislike you (and your arguments are always laughable). But I can't stand trolls. Your wish is granted, Mater Dei twerp.

Gustavo Arellano says:

Oh, this is rich: "junior/Angel fan" finally posted under his real name starting with the line, "Gustavo - This is an interesting conversation that you are having with junior and Angel Fan." So not only is junior a troll and a coward, he's also deluded. Sorry, coward: you asked to be banned, and you are. Comment deleted! Don't like it? Tough.

Sean H. Mill says:

"other than Art Pedroza, who is another two-bit blogger like you."

I love that junior thinks so little of both Art and Gustavo and yet can't stay away from either blog. He promised he would never read the Orange Juice again and yet he is a regular "troll".

I see he has even taken to "trolling" the Liberal OC as well. How long before he is banned there too?

Posted On: Friday, Jun. 26 2009 @ 11:35PM
Gustavo Arellano says:

You still don't get it, junior. You have continuously posted under different names. When I warned you to not do it again, you asked to be banned, and you got your wish. What Sean says is true—you call Art and I two-bit bloggers, yet reads us. That makes you a third-rate chump. Take your banishment like a man.

Sean: Isn't it telling that the only two people whose comments get deleted from Navel Gazing are junior and Stanley Fiala, two SanTana funnymen? Birds of a feather...

Posted On: Sunday, Jun. 28 2009 @ 12:16PM
Art Pedroza says:

Actually, Fiala is behaving himself now. Junior is still acting like an ass.

Junior is a Talibani Republican and he is just bitter that a black Democrat is our President. Get over it Junior! He will be our President for at least two terms...

Posted On: Tuesday, Jun. 30 2009 @ 8:26AM
Gustavo Arellano says:

Art: What a topsy-turvy world we live in where Fiala is better behaved than Junior!

Junior: Every time you leave a comment here, it WILL be deleted. I'm just following your request per above (and you still haven't learned your lesson, as you posted under YET ANOTHER name). Stop making this about you or your views, because it's not (look at the warning I gave some Orange Coast Magazine fans over at SAFII). Oh, and whining about it at the Liberal OC? WEAK.

Dodger fan for life says:

I am a Dodger fan since back when Angel stadium was the stomping grounds for the now departed Rams. The problem with Angels fan or should I say 85% of them which are fans since October 2002 is that they had no clue about baseball until the Angels won the series. Dodger fans invade Angel stadium becasue we can and cause Angel fans dont have nothing on the blue crew and wont do nothing either. You go to the games and its all these milfs and people on dates or families that maybe spilled over from disneylandia or is it gringolandia? Either way they arent true fans and im going to wait to see where all the angels fans are at when a few more seasons go by without a ring for the los angeles angels which are really from anaheim angels

Telly says:

A Cubs fan wrote this? Playing devil's advocate? This happens all over baseball. Mets fans take over Phillies park. Yankees fans take over Baltimore. Heck, a few times on the local news in Chicago they referred to the "sea of red" as Cardinals fans took over Wrigley. There was also a TON of Twins fans that took over Wrigley. Ahd they say Cubs fans are loyal. pffft.
