Faithful reader Cesar's attacks on an Angels fan got me thinking: why are Halos fans generally such pussies?
I know of many exceptions, of course (Weekly managing editor Rich Kane being one of them), but the general stereotype of Angels followers being plastic, effete, polite pussies is just too true. I've been attending games at Anaheim/Edison/Angels Stadium since forever, and I'm always shocked, shocked! that the Angels nation pride themselves on fostering a family atmosphere, that they don't buy up enough tickets to drown out opposing fans. Instead, the Angels get to suffer the insult of having to hear, "LET'S GO, RED SOX!" shouted by drunk micks, as was the case on Wednesday (I heard it on the radio broadcast, ever so faintly). If those Red Sox fans tried such shenanigans against, say, the Chicago White Sox or New York Yankees, the hometown crowd would've taken care of those visiting fools quick. But what happens at Angels Stadium? Gnashing of teeth.
Angels fans: ustedes are PUSSIES!
Anyone who follows Boston sports are the worst sports fans in the world--racist, pushy, drunk micks descended from even-more-racist micks. Kicking the ass of a Boston sports fan is not only defending your team's honor, it's an advancement for civil rights. There will be no brawls in the stands tonight between Angels and Red Sox fans, and that's a damn shame.
And the worst thing I hear coming from Angels fans? "Well, at least we're not like the Dodgers fans." Ah, the latest code for "Mexican" in Southern California: the Dodgers fan, especially those in the cheap seats. Since my kid brother is a die-hard fan of the Blue, I take him a couple of times a year to Dodgers Stadium. Since I'm a cheapskate, we always sit in the outfield. Those Dodgers nuts are the epitome of what a true sports fan is about--loud, obnoxious, fiercely protective of their squad, and just plain fun. Place them in Philly, New York, or Boston, such fans are deemed "colorful"; place them in Dodgers Stadium, and just watch all the euphemisms for "Mexican" that pop out. Give me Dodgers fans over Angels fans any day.
And, for the record: I'm rooting for both the Dodgers and the Angels squads to win. For the fuller record: I'm a Chicago Cubs fan. Go ahead and laugh--I've been doing the same to myself for 29 pinche years. FUCK YOU, STEVE BARTMAN, TO HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Miguel C says:
Explain to me again, the difference between a "racist, pushy, dunk" Boston fan and a racist pushy drunk Dodger fan. The only difference you point out is on is a "mick" and one is "Mexican"
Since when do we need "euphemisms" for Mexican? Is that an offense word now? Is it politically incorrect to call a person from Mexico, Mexican. Face it, an asshole is an asshole. Doesn't matter what team they root for, or if the are a mick or a spic. Some fans just seem to take more pride in being loud obnoxious "fiercely protective" assholes than others. Dodgers and Red Sox come to mind. Last time he Yankees were in town, there were plenty of brawls in the Angels stands. And, it was sad day.
But, maybe if we go the way you suggest, we can achieve the greatness of the Mexican, European and South American futbol fans. Wouldn't it be cool, if when other teams came, we threw batteries, bags of urine beer bottles and feces at them? Wouldn't it be cool if we could trample each other to death and just cancel the games? Maybe we could start to have organized pre-planned riots and have hooligans destroy the stadium and just skip the stupid game. Yes, those are the REAL fans that think what they do in the stands is more important than the game on the field. Makes those spics and micks cheering for baseball teams look like real pussies.

Cesar says:
Hey, Miguelito, idiota, stop trying to ignore the facts: there is, indeed, a code word for alot of things, even in sports. Wake up from your Fantasyland ride. Listen to this, pendejo: I am Chicano, educated, with 6 fig salary, politically informed and active, a family man, AND a Raider fan as well! Matter of fact, I just came back from the game up in Oakland against San Diego and the ambiente was all fun FOR all ages. Are you gonna stereotype me as an asshole too for being a Raider fan? Dude, you Angel fans ARE, indeed, pussies, without passion, don't know shit of your team's history, and complacent as the rest of your bland county. But, hey, at least you have a rally chango, right? I will be honest: I am sooo happy to see that the Serafines are well represented by Latino ballplayers and a Mejicano owner(NOTE: Ballplayers, NOT fans). How is it that, being next door to the 2nd most Latino populated city in the state, your organization historically failed to market to that demographic segment? It's called CODE pendejo. I remember an Angels player in the 80's by the name of Gus Polidor. His real name was not Gus but GUSTAVO like our favorite Anaheim author. And let's not forget the number of blacks your team has had. I can count them in ONE hand. At least my Doyers know how to reach out to Chinos, Latinos, Wabs, Blacks, White-Anglo Sangrones, etc... Yeah, keep thinking like you always have: In step with your pussy tendencies. So, here's to all my fellow asshole Boston, Philly, and Doyer fans out there! Keep up the passion and throw a bag of mierda on Lil' Miguelitos face the next time you see him at the game cheering with the Angels Rally Chango while pretending to know shit about beisbol.

Hey cesar -all Raiders fan suck-especially your educated, 6 figure mexican ass. nobody asked you how educated you were or what salary range you earn. The bottom line is you still suck and the Raiders will always suck.

What is this the personal ads? Great to hear about you heritage, salary, family life , personal interests education and activism. Somehow, you forgot to mention anything about my ass this time.
You must have an awful lot of of fingers on your hand if you can count the number of blacks our team has had. As for stereotypes, you think white folks take the time and effort to come up with a"code" to say Mexican. Get over yourself. No one cares enough to put that kind of effort into it.
You get your mob mentality going when you are surrounded by other assholes and start to think you're a tough guy too. Then you get around to telling me what you are gonna stick in my ASS.
Being civil, courteous and enjoying the game isn't about being a pussy. It's about enjoying what I paid for and took time to go see.....entertainment on the field; not by some ass fascinated clown in the seat next to me.
And hey, why all the name calling and threats? That is really hurtful. I have feelings you know. I know you just lash out when you are embarrassed or hurt or suffering feelings of inadequacy. But, come on, I am a very sensitive Angel fan and it's not nice.

Mikey,
Sorry to hurt your feelings. I know I must be careful around sensitive types.
See you at the game tonight: i will be the one wearing my Raiders jersey, Doyer cap, and shiny avestruz shit-kickers.
Oh, Miguel, I am still thinking about your hairy culo. I just can't help it, I guess. Me lo saludas, please... Gotta go and will not post anymore. Gustavo, thanks for the vine...

Wow -- quickest zero-to-8 comment thread EVER.
Umm, I fixed the Joe Saunders typo in my previous post, if anyone cares...
'Stavo: Me and my ex went to a ChiSox-Angels game at US Cellular Field back in 2004, both cloaked completely in Angels gear, including hideously loud Angels Hawaiian shirts. We cheered and chanted loudly for our team, but weren't hassled or threatened at all -- dudes just ignored us while we enjoyed what I believe was an 8-0 victory. We were both surprised that nobody tried to brawl with us. But just in case, we DID leave after the eighth inning...

Miguel: I'll be the first to say there's a spic-mick connection. Hell, you can even throw in the goombahs that root for the Jets and Giants. But don't act like such a priss. OF COURSE there's code for "Mexicans" in Southern California, especially Orange County--what else can explain why people throw around "Santa Ana" with such venom. Similarly with the Dodgers fans, you hear the complaints as I noted them and notice the ethnic majority--there you go.
While you try to be over-the-top and take things to an extreme, you unwittingly revealed my point. "Fan" is short for "fanatic," and that's what one should expect at a sports match. It's sports, for chrissakes, not a tennis match. You want civility? Go watch a Little League game--oh, wait, those parents...
Cesar: Gracias as always for your comments!
Rich: I'm shocked you weren't jumped. When I was in Chicago last summer and told some White Sox fans I liked the Cubs, they nearly tore my head off--this despite they were my hosts!
Ted: Yes. Pinche Cachorros. GAHHHHHHHHHH!

Boston fans are insane -- don't ever go to a Celtics-Lakers game in Boston covered in L.A. gear (I went in just an N.W.A. shirt and Doyers cap) and I had shit talked to me even on the damn subway to and from the game. This year I'm sure it's much worse. Boston fans start chanting "Yankees suck" at Celtics and Patriots games. Of course they're insane and rabid.
There are codewords for "Mexican" and any other group. What else explains the look of revulsion on someone's face when I told her I had family in Costa Mesa (she was from Newport Beach) or when I tell people I live near South Central? There are code words for "ethnic" groups and it's your sorry little Disney world that says there aren't any.
GO DOYERS! I want the Angels to win, though, just to tell Red Sox fans to suck it and hopefully lead to a Freeway Series.

and how did my astute analysis of why the Angels lost game 1 (and why they will lose the series) get obscured by homoerotica?
But, since we're on the topic:
I have never sampled another man's penis--at least not by choice and not drunk--but if manny leads the Dodgers to the World Series and reclaims Southern california baseball for a real baseball franchise and not a novelty act run into the ground by a lame-ass B Movie cowboy and then Disney, then I will gladly do the squats on the Man-Rams man rammer.

Gee, Rich...do you get to wear your Angels gear in public, here, in Anaheim? You're either real lucky or your skin ain't brown......
showing enthusiasm and pride for our team can get you a "street terrorism" or "gang affiliation" rap......and no one wants to risk a trip to Lacy for just showing support for a local baseball team.....

i just found this post from awhile back somehow but this topic has been on my mind forever and i'm always defending myself being a caucasion die-hard Dodger fan (i like and root for the angels too and enjoy goin to their games but not nearly on the same level as my love for the Blue Crew). most of my friends are angel fans and they will call out dodger fans for being all rowdy mexican raider fans waaaaaaayyyy before they even start to actually defend their own team. and they don't even realize it, because its so commonplace now to go with that stereotype. Since 2002 when the halos had their miracle year, the amount of arrogance in local fans in socal has been ridiculous. The one arguement that most angel fans use in a them vs. dodger conversation is "oh well who won the last world series?, yea exactly!" gimmie a break, great arguement. while thats a true statement and that season was a nice accomplishment, the angels have very very very little history for a franchise that has been around 49 seasons now. and since that 2002 season they have LAYED DOWN in the playoffs continually going 5-15 in 5 postseason series (not to mention the complete dominance by the hated red sox in the last 2 years). The Angels haven't had much competetion in their own division lately just like my Dodgers haven't so whats fair is fair in that respect although this season both of those divisions deserve alot of credit and both leaders have been very impressive aswell. My whole point is that their are real, true, loyal, knowledgeable fans of every team out there but that the angels DID NOT sell out games on a regular basis until '02 even though they were around for 40 some years before that and I been going to their games there for my whole life and there just wasn't an allround sense of pride throughout that stadium always there before then. AND someone's Gustavo's original post hits it on the head, some opposing teams coming in drown out the hometown fans and that shouldn't happen with such a "proud" fanbase. I've been to Dodgers vs. Padres at PetCo Park this season (the last 5 seasons too) and some games there definitely were MORE L.A. fans than SD fans there and its been close to 50/50% at Dodger/Angels games in Anaheim ofcourse too. Now up in the old Candlestick Park Stadium in S.F. it used to be an adventure for L.A. fans to show their pride and root hard in enemy territory while thats not the case now anymore in their new park up there, thats how it should be for any home team in their park, defending their ground for rival teams coming in. Yea brawling in the stands and parking lot is way over the line for sure but the rivalries should stand you know.
